    Maria S. Alanis, 85, of Decatur, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Maria was born on May 17, 1927, in San Juan, Texas, to the late Jose and Paula (Hinojosa) Trevino.
    On May 17, 1945 she married Salvador Alanis; he preceded her in death on January 29, 1995.
    Maria was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. She was a county office assistant for the U.S.D.A. Farmer’s Home Administration for 15 years and also a homemaker.

Anna J. Gilliom

    Anna Jane Gilliom, 88, Berne, died Saturday, March 9, at Swiss Village.
    Among survivors are her husband, Laverne "Bowtie" Gilliom; three daughters, Carol Gilliom of Ronald, Wash.; Betty Mosure of Berne; and Judy (Dan) Rosenberger of Sheridan, Ind.; two sons, Tom (Martha) Gilliom of West Lafayette and Richard (Mary) Gilliom of Goshen.
    Visitation is 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday First Mennonite Church Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m.. Burial will be in MRE Cemetery, Berne.

NA budget takes huge hit - State cuts major blow to building repair projects

    The Indiana Department of Local Government Finance delivered a crushing blow to the proposed 2013 operating budget for North Adams Community Schools early last week. The state budget review commission trimmed some $500,000 from the district's Capital Projects fund for the current year, leaving school officials in a wait-and-see mode when it comes to the fate of building repair projects later this year.

AC OKs teacher retire incentive

    With the retirement of Adams Central Superintendent Mike Pettibone looming, Pettibone continues to show his commitment to the school's future by proposing an incentive package for retiring certified staff.
    Pettibone proposed a $15,000 retirement incentive for AC teachers and administrators to the Adams Central Board of Education on Tuesday, noting that the incentive would not include himself.

Community Corrections computer update approved

    Community Corrections Director Ian Gilbert came before the county council on Tuesday to ask for appropriations to upgrade the department's computer system.

    FORT WAYNE—Bellmont finished their season by sealing their third consecutive NHMLC tournament crown over the weekend topping the 10-team field with 314 points.
    Carroll was the only team that threatened Bellmont's dominance on the day ending second place with 301 points. Indian Springs finished third with 233 points, then East Noble with 172, Maple Creek with 164, and the host-team Summit MS with 154.
    The rest of the standings fell into place with DeKalb, Woodside, New Haven and Norwell respectively.
