The city is under orders from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to reduce the amount of ammonia contained in waste water effluent that is being discharged from the plant to area rivers and streams. Improvements must be completed by 2015.
A Berne factory which began 2012 with 225 full-time employees and was down to 140 by year's end, now plans to move some of its operations to other plants and is seeking a buyer for the remainder of the business.

The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team (ERT) was summoned to Decatur Sunday evening to assist the Adams County Sheriff's Department with the execution of a search warrant after county officers received information that a man they believed to be heavily armed was in a local residence.
Sheriff Shane Rekeweg said police are actively looking for Wade Richard Crone, 26, who is wanted on a charge of criminal confinement, a class D felony.
Sheriff Shane Rekeweg hopes to make some changes in the technology of the sheriff's department this year.
The current PSAP system (which records caller information from 911 phone calls) has been malfunctioning for the past two years, including times when it doesn't work at all. The current company has failed to fix all of the "bugs," so Rekeweg and county Information Technology Director Landon Patterson have decided to switch the system to one offered by Frontier.
