Nearly .25 inches of freezing rain and light snow moved into the area during the overnight hours, coupled with a low temperature around 20 degrees, making for poor road conditions throughout Adams County this morning. The icy roads resulted in all three county schools closing for the day, as well as those in neighboring Jay and Blackford counties in Indiana and Van Wert and Mercer counties in Ohio. Schools in Allen and Wells Counties remained on a two-hour delay at press time this morning

MONROE— With 1:46 to go in the first quarter, the Raiders of Southern Wells scored a bucket to cut the Adams Central lead to 11-8 in Friday night's contest at the Hangar.
The visitors would not score again, however, until the 6:35 mark in the third quarter as the Jets blanked the Raiders in the second quarter on their way to a route 62-23 in their first conference game of the season.
Wednesday’s unseasonably warm December weather allowed Geneva resident Iris Hall to finish putting up her outdoor Christmas decorations in a relatively comfortable way. She finished her holiday decorating in the nick of time, with temperatures for the coming weekend predicted to fall into the single digits.

Paul and Sue Zurcher of Monroe, owners of Zurcher Tire, were in attendance at the Monroe Town Council meeting Thursday night to discuss plans to expand their warehouse building. The company intends to buy property from Biggs Property Management and tear down current apartment buildings for the expansion.

LEO-CEDARVILLE — Leo clinched their ACAC mat showdown with Adams Central Thursday, 45-30, after earning falls in the final two matches as Eddie Lorraine at 113 and Chase Hissong at 120 schooled their Central foes with splattos.
The Lions of coach Josh Donner scored seven falls in all, to the Jets four, and won eight of the 14 matches.
"We had that conversation before we got here. We knew we had to stay off our our backs, and it didn't happen," stated Adams Central coach Doug Schultz.
Raymond Lehman, 83, Coldwater, Mich., passed away Dec. 4, 2013, at home with his family.
He was born March 30, 1930, in Berne, the son of the late Myron and Frieda (Rauch) Lehman.
Raymond taught elementary school in Decatur for 16 years and served as Audio Visual Administrator for 21 years in East Allen County Schools in New Haven. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking.
Anamarie Miller, 57, Decatur, died at her residence Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013.
Anamarie was born in Decatur June 8, 1956, to the late Robert H. and Georgianna R. (Meyers) Miller.
She is survived by two brothers, Tom (Lois) Miller of Fort Wayne and Tim Miller of Decatur.
There will be no services.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
