This week in Pigskin Picks we shall dub the "week of the upsets" as no bracket except for one had anything less than three mistakes and a majority of the entries missed at least five games. Sal Jauregui missed only two and is this week's winner, while the tie-break score was just 23 points between the Seahawks and Giants. Kris McGill was second place missing three with a score of 36.

Braves make statement on mat, down Jets at Hangar, 60-14

December 18, 2013

FORT WAYNE— The Squaws' best chance to nab a win so far in a frustrating season slipped away late in Tuesday night's contest at Blackhawk Christian as four free throws from Mariah Moonen sealed the deal in a 49-43 loss to the Braves in overtime.
Bellmont trailed 15-11 after period one, then watched Blackhawk go on an 8-2 run to lead 23-13 before coach Andy Heim called for a timeout. When the Squaws emerged from the pep talk, they rallied off 11 straight points to end the half down just one at 23-22.

Police station added to city hall proposal

December 18, 2013

Decatur City Council’s final meeting of 2013 provided a major slingshot into 2014: a project that will provide a new city hall building as well as a new police station. And barring any major catastrophes, it will be done without any tax increases.
How’s that for providing a big wrapup to a year?

Hospital disputes network coverage

December 18, 2013

Adams Memorial Hospital officials have announced that information provided to hundreds of area senior citizens from United Healthcare concerning physicians covered in their Medicare Advantage Plan was partially incorrect.
AMH chief financial officer Dane Wheeler said United Healthcare members, including AARP  Medicare Complete, were informed via mail recently that Adams County physicians were no longer considered providers for their plans and they would have to seek new physicians if they wished to be covered.

MAKE IT STOP ...

December 18, 2013

Decatur resident Kenny Roop has had his fill of snow — enough to last the entire winter season. Shoveling the sidewalk in front of his 11th Street home in Decatur Tuesday morning, Roop said simply, “I’m tired of it.” Area residents may be able to put their snow shovels away for awhile, with unseasonably warm temperatures and even a little rain in the forecast for later this week.
