Joseph H. Vogelwede

    Joseph H. Vogelwede, 99, Decatur, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Woodcrest Extended Care.
    Joseph was born Sept.  21, 1914, in Adams County to the late Bernard L. and Edith (Green) Voglewede. He married the Helen Gay Sept. 11, 1939; she preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 1984.

Fuelling named to MAC volleyball squads

    MUNCIE—Former Bellmont High School volleyball standout Alex Fuelling was honored recently as she was named to the Mid-American Conference first team in a vote of MAC coaches.

Kathleen J. Agler

    Kathleen J. Agler, 76, Berne, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Swiss Village, Berne.
    She was born to the late Clinton and Silva (Stucky) Dubach March 16, 1937, in Adams County. She married Thomas E. Agler July 17, 1955; he survives.

Jo E. Biberstine

    Jo Ellen Biberstine, 63, Berne, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at her residence.
    Arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home.

Maurice A. Colchin

    Maurice A. 'Gabby' Colchin, 90, Decatur, passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    He was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Adams County to the late Fredrick and Frances (Coffee) Colchin. He married Alberta C. 'Bertie' Adams; she passed away in 2006.
    Gabby graduated from Decatur Catholic High School and served as a firefighter for the city of Decatur for 28 years. He serve his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Special X mechanics mate submarine torpedo specialist.

Derek O. Franz

    Derek Ogden Franz, 21, Monroeville, passed away Saturday evening, Nov. 23, 2013. Derek was fatally injured following a traffic accident on Hoagland Road in Allen County.
    Derek was born Monday, Nov. 16, 1992, in Ft. Wayne, the son of Kent R. Franz and the late Sandra J. (Ogden) Franz. 
    Derek was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church-Fuelling.  He was a 2011 graduate of Heritage High School. Derek was a self-employed farmer working with his father on the family farm known as Franz Farms.

Everly D. Kauffman

    Everlyn D. (Fetters) Kauffman, 96, Berne, passed away Nov. 24, 2013, at Swiss Village, Berne.
    She was born to the late Bryson C. and Iva (Foreman) Fetters March 12, 1917, in Adams County. She married the late Karl E. Kauffman June 21, 1936.

Crash kills Monroeville 21-year-old

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department reported that Derek Franz, 21, Monroeville, was killed Saturday evening around 11 p.m. when the pick-up truck he was driving left the roadway and then hit a guard rail and concrete barrier. The impact of the initial collision caused his truck to roll over several times.
Franz was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allen County Coroner’s Office with blunt force trauma being ruled as the cause of death.

Trio honored for substance abuse efforts

Three members of the Adams County Substance Abuse Awareness Council were recognized recently by the Northeast Regional Advisory Board of the Governor’s Commission for a Drug Free Indiana at the group’s 18th annual meeting.  The purpose of the Northeast Regional Advisory Board is to collaborate to reduce the impact of alcohol and drugs in the 14-county northeast Indiana area.
