November 1 marked the end of the 2009 federal stimulus package which provided additional income for participants of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s food stamp program. The expiration of stimulus funding has resulted in a reduction in benefits received by SNAP recipients of 7 percent, or $10 per month per person, according to northeast Indiana Family and Social Services Deputy Director of Communications Marnie Lemons.
Many participants in the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s food stamp program whose benefits were reduced beginning this month are children, according to Erin Ripley, food service director for North Adams Community Schools. Ripley said school officials recognized the challenges many students face each evening and weekends, when food may not be as readily available.
The Monroe Town Council on Thursday night heard a presentation from Brett Miller, MLS Engineering and Land surveyor, and Paul Zurcher, owner of Zurcher Tire Company, seeking the council’s permission to approach the Adams County Plan Commission in December concerning the expansion of their current building. Zurcher Tire is hoping to build a 20,000-square-foot warehouse addition to the company’s existing building.
