Nearly 400 members of The Bridge Community Church in Decatur and Berne partnered with Kids Against Hunger Saturday to pack 85,536 meals for children in need. The church collected enough money by saving extra pocket change, money usually spent on dining out and outright donations to pay for nearly seven tons of food.
With colder weather effecting road conditions in the local area, Adams County Highway Department Superintendent Mark Mitchel reported plans for snow removal for this winter season to the Adams County Commissioners at their regularly-scheduled Monday afternoon meeting in the service complex.
Noting that while “each storm is different,” Mitchel informed commissioners his department will “try to get out earlier this year; about 5 p.m.” if conditions warrant such a response.
A smattering of snowfall in recent days has changed the look of the local landscape slightly, and those willing to take a close look may find some picturesque sights awaiting them, as did Daily Democrat photographer Mike Lamm.
Jo Ellen Biberstine, 63, rural Berne, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.
She was born to the late Charles Wulliman and Lavon (Lehman) Wulliman May 4, 1950, in Adams County. She married Ted W. Biberstine Sept. 8, 1979.
Maurice A. 'Gabby' Colchin, 90, Decatur, passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.

Wilfred D. "Will" Hoggatt, 94, Decatur, passed away at 11:24 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
Will was born Sunday, August 31, 1919, in Scottville, Ill. to the late Luey M. and Barbara E. (Reeve) Hoggatt. He married the late B. Evelyn Hoggatt Sept. 21, 1940, in Whiting; she passed away Oct.15, 2002.
Alvin E. Miller, 85, Berne, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Swiss Village Retirement Center in Berne.
He was born Saturday, Sept.15, 1928, in Union County.
Graveside services will take place at 3 p.m. Friday at Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
Joseph H. Vogelwede, 99, Decatur, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Woodcrest Extended Care.
Joseph was born Sept. 21, 1914, in Adams County to the late Bernard L. and Edith (Green) Voglewede. He married the Helen Gay Sept. 11, 1939; she preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 1984.
