On a clear, crisp and cold November Sunday afternoon, with stiff winds snapping flags to attention, Adams County paid special tribute to its servicemen who gave their lives in the Vietnam conflict with the dedication of a granite memorial on the front lawn of the courthouse. The ceremony, appropriately, was held the day before the official Veteran's Day holiday.
Jan Smith, Commander of American Legion Post 43, served as the master of ceremonies during Sunday’s event, attended by more than 100 area residents, including several veterans of the Vietnam conflict.
With some counties seeing an increase in lawsuits filed by voters claiming county districts are unfairly represented, the Adams County Board of Elections opted to take a proactive approach and attempt to redistribute the population and thus better balance the districts for county council seats.
The county is currently divided into four districts, represented by councilmen Stan Stoppenhagen (District 1), Duwayne Herman (District 2), Eric Orr (District 3) and Phil Wulliman (District 4).
