The Adams Central High School marching band, which performs under the name “The Squadron of Sound,” will compete in the Indiana State School Music Association Marching Band Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Saturday after placing in the top 10 at the Class D semi-state at Franklin Community High School this past weekend.
The Adams Central band is one of 14 marching bands throughout Indiana to advance to semi-state. Twenty bands competed at each of four semi-state sites on Saturday.
MONROEVILLE— Bellmont nailed down their ninth straight sectional and 30th overall in school history on Saturday with a pair of easy victories at Heritage.
The win sets up a rematch with one of just five teams to hand the Squaws a loss this season. In a regional match tomorrow Bellmont will face off against Delta (30-4) at the Teepee.
Florence M. Berning, 92, Hoagland, passed away at 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the Village of Heritage in Monroeville.
Florence was born Tuesday, April 26, 1921, in Mercer County, Ohio to the late Charles A. and Anna M. (Tegler) Siebert. She married the late Frederick W. Berning on Sept. 16, 1951, he passed away on Nov. 26, 2012.
Barbara M. Buckey, 88, Decatur, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center. Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
Elisa V. Juarez, 90, Decatur, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 5, 1923, in Britton, Texas to the late Issac and Ramona (Farfan) Vergara. She married the late Francisco Juarez on Nov. 9, 1961. He died on July 10, 1975.
Elisa was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Hispanic Society. She was a homemaker and also worked as a surgical tech in Brownsville, Texas.
Deloris Mae Lichtenberger, 61, Van Wert, Ohio, died at 7:55 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at Van Wert County Hospital.
She was born on Feb. 23, 1952, to John S and Wilma (Overholser) Lichtenberger, Wren, Ohio.
Among survivors are two brothers, Sherman (Viginia) Lichtenberger, Berne and Stanley (Jennifer) Lichtenberger, Van Wert; two sisters, Beverly (Alan R.) Lichtensteiger, rural Ohio City, Ohio and Joyce (Jim) Graffmiller, Portland; and many nieces and nephews.
Jane I. May, 80, Decatur, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
Jane was born on Nov. 27, 1935, in Portland to the late John and Louise (Schmidt) May.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
She is survived by a sister, Rosemary Freiburger, Yoder; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Victor May; and a sister, Lena Bennett.

Kathleen A. Ray, 74, Ossian, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born in Tulsa, Okla. to the late Kenneth A and Wanda Thelma (Isaacs) Harper.
Kate was a member of Grace Fellowship in Decatur. She was a homemaker and also worked as a health care provider.
SOUTH WHITLEY—A monster 28-0 start propelled the Braves to a 35-13 stroll into the sectional semi-finals on Friday night over the Whitko Wildcats on the road.
"Our schedule prepared us for this," Bellmont coach Larry Getts noted after the win. "These guys were co-champs in their conference but we played some 6A and 4A schools in ours. We picked up a good win against a good team but we definitely felt prepared with the tough conference games we played."
