Officials from First Merchants Bank on Friday announced a higher than usual amount of reports from customers and non-cusotmers receiving suspicious phone calls from an automated system asking customers to enter debit card information.
The caller identifies themselves as a representative of the bank and states there is an issue with the customer's debit card and asks the individual to enter his or her debit card number and expiration date.
Freddy Fuelling and Natalie Busse were crowned 2013 Homecoming king and queen Friday night at Worthman Stadium. Light rain fell earlier in the evening, but New Haven’s 54-14 victory over the Braves put the real damper on the evening’s festivities.The Braves wore special National Guard uniforms, a tribute that high schools in Indiana are instituting each week this season in honor of those who serve in the nation’s armed services.

Louis "Jerry" Dubach, 82, Geneva, died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital. He was born in Adams County on Wednesday, April 29, 1931, to the late Elmer and Orrilla (Blocker) Dubach.
Darlene K. Johnson, 64, Decatur, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Chalet Village in Berne.
She was born in Decatur on December 22, 1948, to the late Verlyn R. and Helen I. Geyer. She graduated from Adams Central High School in 1968 and Parisian Beauty College in 1976. She was an Avon Representative since 2011, had previously sold Mary Kay Cosmetics and was a beautician.
Leroy A. Kolter, 80, of Bluffton and a longtime resident of rural Decatur, went to his eternal home on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.
He was born in Adams County on January 22, 1933, to the late Rudolph H. and Adella R. (Kruetzman) Kolter. He married his wife of 62 years, Pauline Rupert on August 25, 1951, in the Monroe United Methodist Church, and she survives.
Lorenz E. Steele, 93, Decatur, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at the Adams Memorial Hospital Emergency Room following a sudden illness.
He was born on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1919, in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Edwin and Bertha (Krueckeberg) Steele. He married Irene M. Aumann on July 27, 1947, at St John Lutheran Church, Bingen, and she survives.
FORT WAYNE—Bellmont girls cross country coach Carl Risch will freely admit to anyone who wants to listen that he believes Bailey Beery, a sophomore on his team this year, is one of the top "5-10 runners in the state."
Beery solidly backed up that statement Saturday in the annual Northeast Hoosier Conference cross country meet winning the girls race by sloshing her way to an 18:30.4 finish in an event mired by driving rain and mud.
PONETO — In a game that had six touchdown plays covering 10 yards or more, it was a fourth down run up the middle by Adams Central's Kyle Baker that put the Jets in control in a 42-26 win over Southern Wells Friday night.
On fourth down and four yards to go at the Raiders' 44-yard line and the Jets' punter Alex Byerly in formation, Baker took a direct snap and barreled straight ahead, knocking over four Southern Wells defenders on a 29-yard spurt that ended on the 15-yard line.

Erma Lucille "Lucy" Blair, 82, passed away at 2:38 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Lucy was born on April 20, 1931, in Wells County to Arnold and Gladys (Haughton) Ivins. She married Carl L. Blair on May 12, 1956, in Fountain City. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1993.
