Democrat Kristopher Burkhart, a lifelong Adams County resident, has announced he is seeking the position of Adams County Coroner.
Burkhart is the second person to announce his candidacy, with Assistant Coroner Leslie Cook, a Republican, announcing her candidacy last week.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Longtime Republican state Rep. Jeff Espich says he won’t seek re-election this year and will end his 40-year career in the Indiana House.
The Uniondale Republican has steered fiscal matters for the House Republicans’ caucus for decades and currently chairs the House Ways and Means Committee.
The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/yLNhsL) that Espich had said for months that he intended to run for re-election.

The City of Decatur has established an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance plan and Street/Sanitation Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert, who heads up the operation, gave city council a compliance update at council's Tuesday meeting.
Jasmine Faith (Baumgartner) Cline, 36, of Geneva, died Monday, February 6.
Arrangements are pending at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva.
Frederick A. Mann, 70, of Angola, died on Wednesday at Parkview Hospital.
Among survivors is his brother, Bruce W. (Carole) Mann of Monroe.
Visitation is from noon-5 p.m. on Sunday at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren.
Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.

Andy’s Coney Bar will hold a fundraiser from 6-10 p.m. this Friday at the Knights of Columbus Pavilion, 1703 High St., Decatur.
Employees of Andy’s, which opened in Decatur a little over a year ago, will be serving coney dogs, chili and old-fashioned root beer on Friday. Also planned, organizers said, are sales of cotton candy, children’s activities, a silent auction, raffles and more.
Super Bowl memorabilia will be available for the auction.
Elizabeth L. "Betty" Macke, 100, of Decatur, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the Woodcrest Nursing Center.
Betty was born May 31, 1911, to Charles and Bertha (Bleeke) Kirchner, in Adams County.
She married William Macke on May 3, 1931; he passed away on January 5, 1990.
Betty was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble, and was a longtime active member in the church choir.

John L. Fries, 83, of Columbia City, died on Sunday.
Among survivors are his daughter, Mary Catherine (Gregg) Palmer of Decatur.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. Paul of the Cross, 315 S. Line Street, Columbia City, with visitation after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at the church. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery.
Marlene Wilson, 73, of Homossassa, Florida, formerly of Decatur,died Monday.
Along with her husband James L. Wilson, survivors include three brothers, Otto, Leo, and Norvin Thieme, all of Decatur.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 12, at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur.
