NORTH JUDSON— The Flying Jets came just under a foot short of advancing to the regional finals against Bowman Academy later on Saturday night, but senior Maverick Baumer could not sink a half-court shot that would have won the Jets a win over Westview in overtime, 51-49.
Two of the best defensive teams in 2A faced off on Saturday morning when the Westview Warriors and Adams Central both traveled over 100 miles to get to North Judson despite the fact that the teams are less than that far apart from each other to begin with.
Raymond D. Eckrote, 96, Geneva, died Friday, in Adams Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Adams County.
Among survivors are his wife, Reba J. (Pyle) Eckrote of Geneva.
Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva. Services will be held there on Tuesday at 11a.m. Burial will be at Alberson Cemetery in Geneva.
North Adams Community Schools is one of 23 school corporations statewide to be named as a recipient of state education department technology grant funding.
The Indiana Department of Education announced this week that the selected school corporations will receive up to $200,000 each to implement classroom technology projects. The grants, totaling $3 million, were awarded through Indiana’s classroom innovation grant program, which is funded primarily through the David C. Ford educational technology fund.
Eileen Rose Gardner, 61, of Kokomo, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Howard Regional Health Systems.
Eileen was born December 16, 1950, in Decatur to Walter F. and Kathleen R. Baker.
She was a graduate of Adams Central High School Class of 1969. She went on to get her bachelor's degree in nursing from the IU School of Nursing, graduating in 1973.
Bellmont High School Baseball Coach Ben Fawbush has announced that the team this year will be hosting a new, annual event known as the “Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.”
The event will be held on a rotating basis by all three Adams County high schools: Bellmont, Adams Central, and South Adams.
The purpose and goal of this event, Fawbush said, is to not only raise funds for cancer research, but to raise awareness and support for the cure of any and all cancers.

“How could we say, 'God, we will adopt any child you provide us, except that little one there in the wheelchair?'” This was the realization that a local couple, Rocky and Lily Evans, came to while searching to adopt a child this past December.
Rocky, who is the creative arts director at The Bridge Community Church in Decatur, and Lily, a nurse for a local doctor, knew they wanted to adopt and kept sensing it was to be a special needs child.
A new addition to Spotlight on Business Expo this year is the Science Central presentation, Outreach to Space.
The program will convert the display area in the Bellmont Middle School gymnasium into a home base for exploration, according to officials of the Fort Wayne-based Science Central. Interactive exhibits, designed and built by San Francisco's famed Exploratorium, are guaranteed to inspire minds from ages 2-102 as they discover astronomy, space travel and so much more, Science Central officials said.
Armed with figures provided by the recent US Census, the City of Decatur in the coming months will be looking at its voting districts for possibly redrawing the maps for voting balance.
City Attorney Tim Baker told city council at its meeting this week that redistricting must be done this year. Once new population figures are obtained from the county clerk, Baker said, an assessment of the districts can be made.
"It could be that we won't have to make any changes," he remarked.
