D. Joseph Wilder

September 12, 2012

    D. Joseph Wilder, 75, of rural Decatur, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.
    Joe was born in Adams County on April 3, 1937, to the late Arthur B. and Helen I. (Tricker) Wilder.
    On August 9, 1958, he married Ruth A. Lengerich; she survives in rural Decatur.
    Joe was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He worked for Central Soya (Bunge) for 46 years, retiring in 2002; he also retired from farming.

Lady Jet netters blast Garrett in sweep

    MONROE—The Lady Jets took care of their home court against the Garrett Railroaders on Tuesday night in an exciting ACAC contest that featured Adams Central sweeping the visitors in three games 25-14, 25-22, 25-20.
    AC, now 3-0 in conference (10-2 overall), went through phases in the match against the Lady Railroaders but the end result was another "W" for coach Ashley Beard.

V. Marcille Dear

    V. Marcille (Davis) Dear, 77, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Adams County, passed away at 1:40 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012, at her residence, after a battle with leukemia.
    She was born on Wednesday, May 29, 1935, in Geneva.
    Mrs. Dear was an extreme gardener and she enjoyed sketching, gourmet cooking and sewing.

Beatrice Lavaugn Johnson

    Beatrice Lavaugn Johnson, 107, died Monday at Woodcrest Nursing Center.    Arrangements pending at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.

Betty L. Moser

September 11, 2012

    Betty L. Moser, 83, of Berne, passed away September 10, 2012, in Berne.
    She was born to the late Earl E. and Alma L. (Raudenbush) Sipe on December 28, 1928, in Adams County.
    Betty married Nelson A. Moser on February 28, 1953.

Faith healer still at it 30 years after trial

    SPENCERVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Solomon Wickey doesn’t remember much about his trial. At least, that’s what he says.
    Wickey puts his fingers to his lips and gazes down. His hair, in a traditional bowl cut, is a deep white now and his beard gray. He sits in a small chair in his office wearing a blue shirt and black pants that note his Amish heritage.

Courthouse near finish

    Everything looks "real well" with the work that has been completed on the courthouse, according to Dave Meyer of the county's building and maintenance department.
    Meyer told the county commissioners on Monday that he met with architect Dave Sholl, of Schenkel and Schultz Architecture, last Friday to inspect the nearly completed restoration of the courthouse.

Ivy Tech numbers continue growth

    The Decatur Chamber of Commerce resumed its monthly luncheon series Monday at the Woodcrest retirement community with a talk from Lisa Smith, Ivy Tech Community College outreach coordinator for Adams County.
    Smith said Ivy Tech currently has 150,000 students at 29 locations in Indiana, and offers classes in more than 75 individual communities. The college's northeast division, which includes campuses in Fort Wayne, serves more than 10,000 students, she said.

United Way’s 2013 drive is under way

    The official 2013 United Way campaign is under way.
    Approximately 50 people attended a recent kickoff luncheon to hear testimonials from three Adams County agencies as to the importance of United Way funding for their activities.
    Sharon Tester, who heads the Adams County Council on Aging, talked about the transportation program which provided 7,496 one-way trips last year.

AC royalty named

September 10, 2012

    Adams Central seniors Isaac Luginbill and Mary Fox were revealed as AC's Homecoming King and Queen on Friday night before the Flying Jets played the Garrett Railroaders.
    Members of the Homecoming Court are Kelsey Barker, Bess Fiechter, Sydnee Peterson, Olivia Macklin, Aubrie Sanders, Stine Sanne, Cody Walburn, Josh Thieme, Nathan Barger, Pierce Harris, David Teeple, and Hansen Fuentes.
    The crowning culminated Homecoming Week at the Monroe school.
