Before the Hall of Fame festivities, the Cross Country Men's League playoffs were held. The Monday league champion Democrat team edged out Thursday champs, Hometown Healthcare, 6-4 to take the league title. In the A spot, Mike Macke beat Dr. Mike Ainsworth 83 (net 81) to 84. At position B, Jared Friedt shot an 81 (net 78) beating out Scott Ainsworth's 79. AJ Kalver nipped Marty Simonson, 78 (net 77) to 78.
The cost to repair damages to the electrical system at the Adams County Courthouse, which was zapped during severe storms that whipped through the area at the beginning of August, has jumped again.
After a lightning strike damaged the courthouse elevator, air conditioning units, alarm systems, several computer systems and related software, the initial estimate for repairs was $20,000. Once repairmen began inspecting the damage, however, that figure jumped to approximately $60,000, according to Dave Meyer of building maintenance.
Adams County Sanitarian/Environmental Director Terry R. Smith has announced that his department has received repeated verifications from the Indiana State Department of Health’s weekly Arboviral Surveillance Reports that West Nile Virus (WNV) is again present in Indiana and in Adams County.
A total of 67 counties, including Adams, have had positive tests. Other counties with positive tests include Allen, Blackford, DeKalb, Jay, Huntington, Noble, Randolph, Wells and Whitley.
A long and drawn-out set of negotiations between Berne officials and representatives of the outlying townships over fire protection costs has not yet been completed — but it’s getting closer.
Margaret A. Colchin, 85, of Avilla, formerly of Fort Wayne, died Monday at Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.

Decatur Mayor John Schultz won the annual Mayor's Challenge on Friday during the Kekionga Festival.
Schultz, shown in accompanying photo tossing a spear, defeated Berne Mayor Bill McKean to win his second straight Challenge.
Schultz bested former Berne John Minch last year after having lost to Minch two years in a row.
The annual Kekionga Festival wrapped up on Sunday, having drawn large crowds over the weekend amid hot but dry weather.
Bellmont High School is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a "Bleed for the Band" blood drive from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, in the high school auxiliary gymnasium.
Wind turbines haven't often been on the minds of Decatur officials lately, but a rural Decatur resident, Doug Hartman, told city council this week that it should begin to take a good look at the local situation because it could be coming up in the near future.
Virginia E. Perry, 85, of Monroeville, passed away at 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2012, in the Woodcrest Nursing Center.
She was born on Tuesday, May 31, 1927, in Adams County, to the late Virgil and Estella (Cully) Barkley.
On June 15, 1946, she married Monroe L. Perry in the East Liberty United Methodist Church in rural Monroeville; he passed away on December 10, 1994.
