Mildred L. Bleeke

    Mildred L. Bleeke, 95, of Decatur, passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012, at her residence.
    She was born on Thursday, July 15, 1917, in Adams County, to the late William and  Sophie (Bieberich) Weber.
    Mildred married Edward G. Bleeke on December 9, 1939; he passed away September 3, 1997.
    She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Decatur, and was a homemaker.

    Just in time for the big weekend of the Festival of the Kekionga, which honors our heritage, a seeming part of our "heritage" may be gone.
    Those orange "Road Construction Ahead", "End Construction" and other such signs which have begun to seem to be a part of the city's heritage will be removed on Friday. At least that's what an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) representative told Decatur Street/Sanitation Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert on Tuesday.

City ‘put best foot forward’

    Two Chinese businessmen left Decatur on Tuesday after spending all of Monday and part of Tuesday touring the city, Mayor John Schultz said at Tuesday night's meeting of city council.
    They were escorted by the mayor and Adams County Economic Development Director Larry Mackin to view operations at Fleetwood, Gold Shield and Bunge North America.
    Other local officials attended a dinner held Monday night at Adams Memorial Hospital.

    Taste of Decatur will be held Thursday as part of the annual Kekionga Festival and the city's new Sculpture Walk.
    Taste will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the courthouse square in downtown Decatur.
    Five local establishments will serve small portions from their menu, with offerings ranging from 50 cents to $2. The five:
    The Back 40 Junction,1011 N. 13th St., to serve smoked beef brisket sandwiches, strawberry shortcake, fresh strawberry lemonade.

Squaws win CC Invite; Stars win men's race

    Strong early season cross country performances at the Bellmont Invitational found Bellmont and South Adams winning team titles Tuesday evening in the girls and boys meet respectively.
    "I knew we were in the hunt for the title. I wasn't sure we had won but knew it would be very close," related Bellmont coach Carl Risch as meet officials totaled up the points for the 11 teams in the girls' field and found Bellmont had 57 points compared to Jay County's 59 and Leo's 65.

Squaws blast Stars, 6-1

    The Squaws hosted the Lady Starfires on the soccer pitch Tuesday night and got a scare put into them when SA scored the first goal.
    It would turn out to be their only score of the contest, as Bellmont put up six unanswered goals after that, three in each half, to defeat South Adams, 6-1 at the Teepee.
