Ian L. Voirol

July 16, 2012

    Ian L. Voirol, 30, of Decatur, died Friday at his residence.
    Among survivors are his sons, Quentin Voirol, Isaiah Voirol, and Aaron Voirol, all of Decatur; a daughter, Veronica Voirol of Decatur; his mother, Danalee Voirol of Decatur, and father, Greg A. Cole of Berne.
    Visitation is 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m Thursday at the funeral home.

Truck downs lines, knocks out power and causes fire

    Inconvenience quickly turned to chaos as downed power lines caused widespread outages and sparked a fire in the Custom Car Care storage building on Thursday.
    At approximately 9:30 a.m. a semitrailer driven by Edgar Butler of East Point, Michigan, attempted to drive between two I&M poles on the west side of the Pizza Hut parking lot.

Restaurants lose power

    The power outage from the accident on Thursday seemed to have more of an effect on residents and businesses on the west side of 13th Street. Some restaurants — such as Taco Bell, Wendy's, and Subway, all close to the proximity of the original accident — were without power until about around 7 p.m. Thursday.

Club leaders to head 4-H parade

    Adams County 4-H club leaders Shirley Steiner and Gloria Sommer have been named the 2012 Adams County 4-H parade grand marshals.
    The fair officially kicks off on Sunday.
    Shirley and Gloria together have a total 36 years of service as 4-H volunteers, according to a news release.  For many years they were the Hartford Happy-Go-Lucky Club leaders.

Lillian Marie Brown

    Lillian Marie Brown, 91, of rural Decatur, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012, at River Terrace Estates, in Bluffton. Marie was born on July 11, 1921, in Wells County, to the late Charles E. and Lilly Mae (Diehl) Johnloz.
    On May 17, 1941 she married Oscar T. Brown; he died in April of 1986.

Courtesy wins Koufax league

    Courtesy Motors completed a perfect season last night at Worthman Field defeating Erie Haven 10-9 in a nail-biter earning the regular season and tournament Sandy Koufax titles for Adams-Wells Counties.
    The pair of Decatur squads faced off after Erie Haven won their semi-final contest in Monroe the night before and Courtesy handled the Monroe Harvestland crew in five innings.

Truck takes down power lines-sparks fire

July 12, 2012

    A semi truck failed to clear power lines in the back section of the Pizza Hut parking lot, snapping two poles causing wide spread power outages along 13th Street and sparking a fire in the Custom Car Care storage building.
    An I&M spokesman said power is expected to be restored by early evening Thursday.

Cycling cops stop to honor Elson, others

    The 10th annual Cops Cycling for Survivors riders were in Decatur Wednesday during day three of a 19-day trek riding nearly 1,000 miles throughout Indiana.    The event kicked off in downtown Indianapolis Monday as 53 cyclists participating in this year's ride began their journey in honor of fallen Indiana law enforcement officers.

Hospital ponders refinancing

    Adams Memorial Hospital is looking to refinance the $40 million bond that was taken out, with help of the county, in 2003 to build the new hospital.
    Tom Nordwick, Adams Memorial CEO/President, and hospital attorney Adam Miller met with Adams County Council Tuesday to inform the council of intent to refinance, saving approximately $2-3 million over the life of the loan.
