AAU NATIONAL TEAM—The Asics Munciana Mogwai volleyball team out of Muncie, IN recently placed fifth in the nation in the 13-Open division of the 2012 AAU Jr. National Volleyball Championships held in Orlando, FL on in late June. This year they also competed in the JVA Wold Challenge in Houston on March 30 where they finished second overall. Players on the team consist of girls from the Muncie area with two players from Indy, and a local Decatur player, Taylor Bebout, who is in the back row second from the left in the photo above. BERNE — The family of an Indiana National Guard soldier from Berne says he was killed Sunday night during an attack in Afghanistan.
Nick Taylor, 20, of Berne was driving an armored truck when it was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, according to his brother Drew Taylor. He told The Journal Gazette that Guard officials told the family that his brother wasn’t the only soldier killed in the attack but didn’t give details.
The Adams County 4-H Fair has crowned a Miss Adams County, Kaylea Kongar, and tonight it will crown its 2012 Royal Ambassador.
Tuesday is always one of the biggest nights for the 4-H annual event and tonight will hold to that tradition. The parade, led by grand marshals Gloria Sommer and Shirley Steiner, will begin to roll through the streets of Monroe at 7.
Following the parade, attention will shift to the fair stage where several recognitions will be given and the new Royal Ambassador will be announced.
The Adams County Solid Waste Management District's board of directors on Monday directed its attorney to negotiate and execute an inter-local agreement with the county commissioners that ultimately would lead to the waste district's purchase of a new backhoe. That piece of equipment, in turn, would be shared with the county surveyor's office if the legal details can be worked out.

Kaylea Kongar was crowned Miss Adams County on Sunday night as the Adams County 4-H Fair hit the ground running.
Activities pick up today, with the rabbit and sheep shows plus the Horse and Pony Show held this morning, followed by the poultry show in early afternoon.
The Starter Calf Show is on tap at 5, followed by the stage performance of Studio 180 at 6. The Grand Champion presentations will be made at 6:30, then the Decatur Dance Academy will take over the stage at 7.
Imogene E. Grabner, 84, Monroeville, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
She was born on Wednesday, June 13, 1928, in Allen County to the late Homer J. and Ida C. (McBride) Clay.
She married Lindy L. Grabner on August 9, 1947; he survives in Monroeville. The couple celebrated 64 years of marriage last August.
Imogene was a homemaker.
When Cops Cycling for Survivors visited the Decatur area last week, their first stop was at the grave site of Decatur Police Officer Jerrold J. "Jerry" Wyss, who was killed in the line of duty on October 23, 2001.
Wyss, a 1991 graduate of Bellmont High School, was killed while on his way to assist another officer in pursuit of a vehicle whose passengers had been firing a gun into a residence in rural Adams County.
Tomasa M. Serna, 81, of Decatur, died Saturday.
Arrangements are pending at Haggard Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.
Both Adams County courts, along with the jail, are looking to upgrade the audio/visual equipment used during hearings to better accommodate the courts, deputies, and inmates.
Carrie Freeman of superior court met with Adams County Council this week to request $22,137, to be taken out of adult user probation fees and cover the cost of upgrading the courtroom system and providing an additional feed to the jail.
