A private organization of local volunteers with a unified goal of alleviating child hunger throughout the North Adams school system gained public support on Tuesday when the school district's board of education agreed to provide a physical location to assist in those efforts.
The South Adams Schools Board once again tabled the matter of granting permission to The Bridge Community Church to use the school's auditorium and six classrooms from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Sunday, beginning September 9, for an extended length of time.
Prior to the regularly-scheduled meeting on Tuesday, board members met in a work session to discuss the matter. Board member Tony Mellencamp said, "Every question that came up resulted in 10 more questions."

FRANKLIN—Chase Ellsworth, Bellmont's sophomore linksman and lone representative at the state golf finals, has made the cut for the final round of the 36-hole event at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Indiana.
Anthony Jon "Tony" Liechty, 73, of Berne, died Sunday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
Among survivors are his wife, Stephanie Liechty; and daughter, Kelly Liechty of Madison, Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.
Jerry K. Price, 76, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, with family by his side at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston after a nearly five-month battle with leukemia.
He was born on October 10, 1935, to Roy and Margaret (Hudson) Price, in Decatur, where he remained a connected member of the community long after moving to New Orleans and later Houston.
Omer W. Sprunger, 76, of Berne, died Sunday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
Among survivors are a daughter, Suzette (Ralph) Lammlein of New Haven; stepdaughters, Gloria Thornton of Berne; Beth (Steve) Koehler of Linn Grove; and a stepson, Doug (Kim) Bauman of Monroe.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-7 p.m. at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Berne, with visitation one hour prior to services.
Police are continuing their investigation today into a robbery that occurred at 8:15 p.m. Monday at the Decatur Walgreen's Pharmacy, 123 N. 13th Street.
Authorities said a white male entered the store and approached the pharmacy desk. He presented a handwritten note to the Walgreen's employee, demanding painkiller drugs. The suspect was given an unspecified amount of drugs and then left the building.
After proposing excavators and operators of heavy equipment on county roads be charged for any damages caused by the loading and unloading of their machinery last week, Adams County Highway Superintendent Mark Mitchel on Monday presented county commissioners with a draft of a letter outlining the possible charges violators could incur.
Mitchel proposed that when damage is done to a county roadway, violators be sent a bill for the materials and labor required by the highway department to repair the damage.
A first-year member of Berne City Council took an admittedly symbolic stand against big government on Monday evening in voting against a proposed pay increase for himself and other councilmen.
Republican Phil Provost, who joined the panel in January after upsetting incumbent at-large councilman Mike Poulson in the November general election, had made fiscal conservatism and smaller government a part of his election campaign. He took the opportunity to reinforce that platform this week.
After stellar seasons by both South Adams and Adams Central that concluded prematurely at the sectional level, both the Jets and Starfires can take a little bit of solace in the releasing of the Allen County Athletic Conference's all-conference selections released this week. The All-Area team has also been announced that includes the NHC, ACAC, SAC, and neighboring county schools as well.
