John J. Pease, 87 of Bluffton, passed away at 2 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at River Terrace Estates.
John was born on October 4, 1924, in Wells County, Indiana, to Lester R. Pease and Evelyn D. (Speheger) Pease. He married Esther L. (Ginter) in Wells County on April 14, 1946. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2001. John married Phyllis (Barnett) Langel in Adams County on September 24, 2002 and she survives.
A major project is due to begin in Decatur in another week or so: the replacement of some 2,500 street signs.
Michiana Contracting of Plymouth was awarded the contract with a bid of $16;7,472.63. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) administers the federal grant awarded the City of Decatur for the project.
Decatur received $261,900 in federal funds, and with the city's $29,100 match, the total grant amounts to $291,100. The grant covers engineering, inspections, and all other aspects.
Austin Miller received a standing ovation as he walked across the stage at South Adams on Sunday to receive his high school diploma.
Miller has overcome numerous health issues, including a recent kidney transplant, to be able to walk across the stage at his graduation ceremony on Sunday.

South Adams, Adams Central and Bellmont high schools all held graduation ceremonies on Sunday.
Adams County Highway Department Superintendent Mark Mitchel proposed the possibility of charging excavators and operators of heavy equipment using county roads to be charged for any damages caused by the loading and unloading of their machinery.
Mitchel told Adams County Commissioners Monday that without laying down something to protect the road, such as tires or plywood, when machinery that run on steel tracks are unloaded, then turned in the road, it causes damage that the county must then repair.
Mary Ann C. Miller, 73, of rural Decatur, died on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on February 8, 1939, in St. Henry, Ohio, to the late Henry and Leona (Kunkler) Guggenbiller.
On November 12, 1960, she married Gerald R. Miller.
Mary Ann was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was also a homemaker.
Alma S. Jones, 89, of West Winfield, New York, passed away May 26, 2012.
She was born March 1, 1923, in Preble, the daughter of Henry and Sene (Thieme) Selking.
Alma was the wife of Harold T. Jones; he died December 13, 2006.
Doris Rauner, 91, of Lima, Ohio, formerly of Adams County, died May 17.
Among survivors are a son, Michael (Lila) Rauner of Magley; Kathy (Tom ) Martin of Lima; and Thomas Rauner of Lovelady, Texas.
The body was cremated. There was no service.
Larry D. Urick Jr., 47, of Decatur, died at his residence on Monday.
Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.
For the first time since 1976, the Bellmont Braves' golf team will be playing in the regional finals thanks to a second place finish at Timberidge, Norwell's course, on Friday night.
The qualifying is Bellmont's third regional berth in school history with the only others being in '72 and '76.
Dorothy Bixler, 96, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on Tuesday, April 4, 1916, in Adams County, the daughter of the late Lawrence J. and Anna (Bultemeier) Heckman.
She married Roy Bixler on October 18, 1947, in Adams County; he passed away on June 5, 2010.
Dorothy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen, where she was active in the Ladies Guild. She was also a past president of General Electric's Elex Club.
