Cal M. Peterson

May 14, 2012

    Cal M. Peterson, 86, of New Haven, passed away at 10:25 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012, in the Kingston Residence, Fort Wayne.
    Cal was born on Wednesday, May 20, 1925, in Decatur, the son of the late Cal F. and Edna L. (Neukom) Peterson.    He married the late Magdelene K. Hilgeman on July 24, 1948, in Magley; she passed away on November 5, 2010.
    Cal served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Roger Davis Ripley

    Roger Davis Ripley, 77, of Decatur, died at 10:14 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at his residence.
    Roger was born on Saturday, February 16, 1935, in Adams County, the son of the late Leland and Midge (Davis) Ripley.
    He married Betty M. Roe on December 4, 1954, in Decatur; she survives.
    Roger was a member of the Willshire Union United Methodist Church, served on the Decatur Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and coached Little League and Pony League for Monmouth from 1967-1973.

Richard Wellman

    Richard Wellman, 84, of Bryant, died Friday, May 11, 2012, in Kindred Hospital, Lima, Ohio. 
    He was born in Bryant on July 5, 1927, the son of Jerome and Agnes (Krieg) Wellman Sr.
    He was married June 30, 1951, to Ruth C. Weigel; she passed away June 5, 2010.

Bellmont pink prom has a special guest

    Bellmont High School held a pink prom at the Botanical Gardens in Fort Wayne on Saturday night — with a special guest.
    In honor of a classmate's mother who is fighting breast cancer, numerous students were sporting pink, the boys wearing pink vests and, in some cases, pink ties.

Lawson mending fences

    Six weeks into her position job as Indiana's Secretary of State, Connie Lawson is fully aware of the public relations job that lies ahead of her. There are fences to be mended and public relationships and trust to be restored in the office she now holds.
    Lawson was appointed to her new position by Gov. Mitch Daniels on March 16 to succeed fellow Republican Charlie White, who was removed for office after his conviction on a charge of voter fraud.

Motor Sports Festival slated June 15

    The 12th annual Motor Sports Festival will be presented in downtown Decatur on Friday June 15, it has been announced by the sponsoring Chamber of Comerce.
      Registration will begin at 4 p.m. and the show will continue until 9p.m.
    Several food vendors will have food available for sale. MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) will be returning with their popular spiral fries and Common Ground Church will be serving hamburgers, hotdogs and sloppy Joes, the announcement said.

Milk truck rolls over on 224

May 11, 2012

     A semi hauling 6,000 gallons of milk rolled over at the intersection of US 224 and 600 E around 12:30 this morning.
    No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
    No milk spilled out of the truck from Eagle Transport Group of Goshen. According to an Adams County sheriff at the scene, another milk truck was called in to transfer the milk which was not contaminated in the accident.
    The driver was not injured.

Friday morning at Swiss Village. 
    Arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home.

    Maryann Root, 93, of Berne, died Thursday morning at Swiss Village.
    Arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home.
