Ronald “Robbie” R. Kemezy

May 22, 2012

    Ronald “Robbie” R. Kemezy, 45, of Bluffton, formally of Muncie, died Saturday at his residence.
    He was born  to Ronald G. (Ann) Kemezy and  Patti B. (Gene L.) Ruse; both survive. Other survivors include one brother and three sisters, including Tammy J. Dobbels of Decatur.
    A graveside service and burial will occur at a later date at Brookeside Memorial Park, in Montpelier.  Arrangements were by Goodwin Memorial Chapel, Bluffton.
 

Mary E. Smeltzer-Shaw

    Mary E. Smeltzer-Shaw, 66, of Decatur, passed away at 7 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
    She was born in Wells County on December 4, 1945, to the late Edwin R. and Isabelle M. (Franklin) Smeltzer, Jr.

Lucile A. Trentham

    Lucile A. Trentham, 79, of Decatur, passed away Sunday morning at Lutheran Hospital.
    Lucile was born on April l9, 1933, in Butler, Indiana, to the late Gerald and Edna (Greer) Trentham.
    She married Tom Trentham, who is deceased.
    Lucile attended Mt. Hope of the Nazarene Church near Berne. While staying in DeLand, Florida, she worked as an electronic technician at General Dynamics. Lucile enjoyed NASCAR racing, cooking, baking, working puzzle books, and loved her family.

Solid waste boss pushes for employee pay boost

    Adams County Solid Waste Management District Director Hank Mayer said Monday he is willing to forego a pay increase of his own next year, so long as employees of the district get what he called a well-deserved wage hike.
    Speaking to members of the solid waste district's board of trustees, Mayer gave a preliminary budget overview that included a proposed 2 percent pay increase for solid waste employees.

Gregg, Pence name women running mates

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — With the addition of two women to gubernatorial tickets, it’s almost guaranteed that the next duo to run Indiana will be a man and a woman — for the third consecutive time.
    Republican candidate Mike Pence toured the state Monday with his choice for lieutenant governor: state Rep. Sue Ellspermann. The pair said they will focus on economic development if elected in November and said her candidacy is not about attracting female voters, but about choosing the best candidate.

BHS students get lesson in owning, operating a business

    The teams had catchy names: Sweetie Pies, BEB's Buckeyes, Morning Glaze Donuts. Team members made confectionaries and sold them. Some made a profit, which was donated to the charity of their choice. Other teams were less financially successful.
    But in the end, the students of Bellmont High School economics teacher Brian Lineberry all received a valuable lesson in the pitfalls of owning and operating their own business as part of a Project Based Learning exercise that wrapped up recently.

Jets and Stars to collide after sectional wins

    BUTLER, IN—Both the Lady Starfires and Lady Jets found ways to advance to tonight's sectional semi-final with wins against their opponents in the opener on Monday night to earn the right to play each other for a spot in the championship.
    Adams Central had the closer of the two contests in game one of the Eastside-hosted sectional playing an upstart Churubusco Lady Eagles team and pulling out a gritty, 2-1 decision thanks to two runs in the fourth inning.

    Pairings for the girls track regional set for Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Northrop's Spuller Stadium in Fort Wayne have the Bellmont Squaws with a pair of second place seeds while three more individuals enter the competition with a fourth place ranking.

Braves win invitational

May 21, 2012

    The Braves played the rude hosts to the Concordia Cadets and the Munster Mustangs on Saturday afternoon in the Bellmont Invitational.
    Both games ended with the Braves on top in extremely tight contests starting with the win against the Cadets in game one, 7-6, and followed by the gutsy win against the Mustangs, 5-4.
