New look for the sheriff’s department

    Adams County Sheriff Rekeweg announced there have been some changes at the sheriff's department, most notably in the sheriff's vehicles area residents are used to seeing.
    Rekeweg said that in an effort to save taxpayers money, as well as conforming to standards set by the Indiana Sheriff's' Association, sheriff's cars have been changed from the familiar two-tone brown to a plain white vehicle.

Depot site of summer arts fair

    The 100-year-old former Pennsylvania Railroad depot in Decatur will be getting some public exposure next August as it becomes the site of an arts fair.
    Andy Gay, representing the local Friends of the Arts, a group which grew out of last year's "Cuties of Decatur" play, laid out details for city council at its meeting this week.

New law snags diocese’s bid to buy school

    The sale of the former Monroeville Elementary School building by East Allen Schools to the Fort Wayne-South Bend Catholic Diocese may not happen.
    The Indiana Public Charter Schools Association, Indiana's leading charter school advocacy group, has asked that the sale be halted, claiming the deal violates state law.
    "Our legal team has been in contact with East Allen's team," diocesan spokesman Sean McBride told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette. "It doesn't look good."

Margaret R. Lengerich

    Margaret R. Lengerich, 92, of Decatur, passed away at 8:06 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at her residence.
    She was born on October 5, 1919, in Adams County, to the late Andrew and Margaret (Kortenber) Wolpert.
    She married Wilbur “Jeff” Lengerich on July 3, 1949; he passed away in 1969.

Cheryl E. Pietosi

    Cheryl E. Pietosi, 65, of Berne, passed away at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2012, at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center. 
    She was born on Thursday, September 26, 1946, in Decatur, to the late Robert and Wanda (Garner) Eyanson.
    Mrs. Pietosi had worked for Berne Tube Products for 37 years.

Mona A. Scott Sell

    Mona A. Scott Sell, 64, of Bryant, died Thursday at her residence. 
    She was born on Tuesday, June 10, 1947, in Madison to the late Thomas Luellen and the late Wilma G. (Gay) Frazier.

Pauline Rose Via

May 7, 2012

    Pauline Rose Via, 94, of Portland, died Saturday in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare. 
    She was born in Salamonia on December 10, 1917, to the late Jesse and Cora (May) Locker. 
    Surviving are two sons, Danny Via (Janice) of Clarksville, Tenn., and Dennis Via of Decatur; and one daughter, Linda (Bill) Zimmerman of Portland.

    Rosa L. Wengerd, 62, of Bryant, died on Saturday at Lutheran Hospital.    
    She was born on Tuesday, September 20, 1949, in Adams County.

Norwell wins SA invite; Squaws 2nd

    BERNE—Bellmont dominated the winner's stand Friday night in the girls portion of the South Adams Track Invitational but it was the depth of the Norwell girls that gave the Knights a 130-105 win over the Squaws in a nine-team field.
    Bellmont swept eight of the 15 events on the night and in the process of doing so set one new and tied one Bellmont school record, and shattered four SA Invitational marks.
