2 events get city approval

    As the calendar turned from April to May, Decatur City Council on Tuesday night gave its approval for street closings for two summertime events, one new and the other a perennial.
    The new event is a Shriners' parade and the old is the annual Fourth of July Fireworks.
    As he usually does around this time of year, Adam Eguia turned up at the council meeting to offer some details on the fireworks show plus ask for the street closings as well as the city's annual $350 donation.

Benefit fund in place for crash family

     A benefit fund for the Martin and Mary Schwartz family, who were involved in a fatal traffic accident on April 17, has been established at the First Bank of Berne, according to a spokesperson.
    Mary Schwartz, 44, was directing a buggy eastbound on US 224 shortly before 8 a.m. when a van, driven by Chandler M. Gerber, 21, of Bluffton, failed to see the buggy, rear-ending the vehicle and ejecting all six passengers.

‘Children of Eden’ to open Saturday

    The Bellmont High School 2012 spring musical production “Children of Eden” scheduled for this weekend will showcase the talents of many North Adams students as cast, orchestra and tec crew members, play organizers said.
    “Children of Eden” is loosely based on the first two books of the bible. Act One tells the story of Adam, Even, Cain and Abel.  Act Two is the story of Noah and the flood.
    Faculty member Ric Giest is the production director.

    Valerie Lynn Gifford-Graber, 60, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 26, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. 
        Valerie’s skills as a certified Bach Flower Remedy Practitioner (BFRP), Certified Drug and Alcohol Practitioner (CAADAC, ACA), and Wellness Consultant transformed the lives of the multitudes she served.
    Valerie was an incomparable life partner, a beautifully gifted counselor, and a magnificent, inspirational healer. 

Braves top Heritage with two in seventh

    The Braves pulled the rabbit out of the hat on Wednesday night as they hosted the always feisty Heritage Patriots in a non-conference, potential sectional match-up and came out victorious after a two-run seventh inning, 3-2.
    Bellmont, now 11-3 on the season, showed little offense the entire game as they were led on the defensive side by senior Landon Baker who went six solid innings allowing only the two runs for the Pats on six hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.

Squaws get marquee win against Carroll

    Going into Wednesday night's Northeast Hoosier Conference game with only three wins on the season, the Bellmont Squaws hopefully found a spark that will turn their season around as they shocked NHC powerhouse Carroll by a 3-2 tally at the Bellmont diamond.
    Timely hits and strong defense played the key roles for Bellmont in the win.
