    Pairings for the girls track regional set for Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Northrop's Spuller Stadium in Fort Wayne have the Bellmont Squaws with a pair of second place seeds while three more individuals enter the competition with a fourth place ranking.

Braves win invitational

May 21, 2012

    The Braves played the rude hosts to the Concordia Cadets and the Munster Mustangs on Saturday afternoon in the Bellmont Invitational.
    Both games ended with the Braves on top in extremely tight contests starting with the win against the Cadets in game one, 7-6, and followed by the gutsy win against the Mustangs, 5-4.

Dangerous old building a year older

    Matt Vondren said personal letters from residents of the neighborhood around the old street department building can be a great help in securing a grant by writing personal letters and giving details, "not just saying it should come down." Those interested should contact Mayor John Schultz at City Hall.

Buying new picked over rehabbing old

    Faced with a dilemma of either updating a batch of aging IV pumps (that were also facing a manufacturers' recall) or purchasing new ones, the Adams Health Network Board of Trustees spent nearly $240,000 at a recent hospital board meeting to buy nearly 70 new units.
    Chief Financial Officer Dane Wheeler told board members the purchase was the best way to go and the hospital would save money by buying new instead of rehabbing the old machines, some of which were 15 years old; plus, they would be getting a superior product.

Eleanora D. Ahr

    Eleanora  D. Ahr, 81, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012. 
    Born in Fort Wayne, Eleanora had worked as a secretary throughout her life for Kroger Division Office, Dilgards, and the Fort Wayne city government. She attended New Haven United Methodist Church and was a past member of the MPO. She was a very faithful person who read the Upper Room daily, liked to vacation in Sanibel Island, and loved being known as 'Baba'.

    Mary E. Smeltzer-Shaw, 66, of Decatur, died at 7 a.m. Sunday at her residence.
    Calling will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Funeral services will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday. A private family burial will be Friday at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton. 
    A complete obituary notice will be provided for Tuesday's edition of the Democrat, the funeral home said.
