Lady Jets earn third tennis sectional crown

    KINGSLAND— Adams Central fought through the odds on Wednesday and Thursday to make it to their sixth sectional championship in as many years and on Friday night, the Lady Jets earned their second title in that run, only their third in school history with a 3-2 win over Huntington North.
    "We expect to be in the championship each year," AC coach Mike Hower noted after the match. "We don't always win, but we expect to get there. Eventually you have to win a few and we finally did it."

BHS senior ‘pays forward’

    Cody Walters, who stands about 5-7, was one of the toughest guys on that Bellmont Sectional football championship team last fall. Today, in the eyes of many, he stands much taller than the new World Trade Center building going up in New York City; taller than that "world's biggest" in Dubai.

Birch: ‘Support overwhelming’

    Within a few days following major surgery for breast cancer, Katie Birch was out and about. She attributes it all to the outpouring of love from the community.
    "You know, I've been getting out a lot (since May 1 surgery) and a lot of people have been surprised by that," Birch said on Wednesday. "But I attribute all of that to the community, to the love that I've been shown. It's all been so postitive; I have no room for negative."

Courts to get second security officer

    Once again, judges Frederick A. Schurger and Patrick R. Miller, along with Sheriff Shane Rekeweg, addressed the Adams County Council this week regarding the ongoing issues with security in the courts. The result was an agreement to add an additional security officer.
    Schurger told council members that even though there have been several studies done about possible solutions, so far there has been no action.

Albert Edwin Koehler

    Albert Edwin Koehler, 80, of Berne, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the Swiss Village Retirement Center, in Berne. 
    He was born on Sunday, May 08, 1932, in New Albany, Indiana. 
    He married Barbara Sue (Zonker) on Saturday, November 15, 1980, in Berne. 
    Mr. Koehler retired in 1994 from teaching. He taught at South Adams from 1964 to 1967 and at Jay County from 1968 to 1994. He was a graduate of Purdue University.

Carl L. Lichtenberger

    Carl L. Lichtenberger, 79, of rural Decatur, died on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
    Carl was born in Van Wert County on May 27, 1932, to the late William H. and Ina M. (Finkhousen) Lichtenberger.
    On April 18, 1954, Carl married Annabelle M. Shaffer.
    Carl was a member of the formal Decatur Missionary Church and attended Mt. Zion U.B. Church in Bobo.
