Ivan M. Walters, 84, of Decatur, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital.
He was born December 28,1927, in Van Wert, Ohio, to the late Stanley and Freida (Schaadt) Walters.
He married Mary Bess Weyant on November 7,1948; she survives.
He retired after being self-employed, a member of the Portland Elks, and served as a past-president for the Portland Chamber.

For the fifth time in five days, Adams Central has played a varsity baseball game and won. Take away Tuesday night's game against Woodlan (a 10-0 laugher) and all of the games played by AC in the last week have been thrillers to the wire, including last night's win against Heritage in ACAC action at the Hangar where the Jets once again looked dead in the water late in the game, but somehow managed to pull out the victory, 7-6, for another conference win.
Bellmont Braves golf continued to roll last night playing the back nine holes at Cedar Creek (par 35) with a win against both Leo and Snider in dominating form.
The Braves shot a team-low 149 on the day with Leo coming in second with a 168 score and Snider just behind at 174.
Ben Faurote was handed a four-year term on the North Adams school board by Decatur City Council during a special council session held Tuesday afternoon.
A razor-thin vote — in what was the council's last-ever school board appointment — saw Faurote retain his board seat by a 3-2 margin over newcomer Stacey Bussel. Future school board seats will be filled by voters as the board later this year begins the transformation from an appointed body to an elected one.
Berne firefighters were dispatched to a fully-involved fire at Oakwood Terrace Apartments at 1:50 p.m. yesterday and remained on the scene nearly four hours, with one firefighter suffering minor injuries.
Berne Fire Chief John Crider reported this morning that a firefighter was taken to a local hospital for examination and x-rays due to a hand injury. The injury was not said to be serious, and the firefighter was treated and released.
Patsy R. Hawkins, 78, of Decatur, died at 2:49 p.m. Tuesday in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Arrangements are pending at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home Decatur.
In recognition of Prevent Child Abuse Awareness Month, the Adams County advocacy group SAFE (Supporting All Families Everyday) has created a pinwheel garden on the south side of the courthouse lawn.
The blue pinwheels, which will be displayed today through Friday, are "like a promise to children to keep them safe," said SAFE spokeswoman Cindy Thieme.
Zachary Wendell McKee, 27, of Ossian, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012.
He was born on January 7, 1985, to Mark and Julie (Hammond) McKee.
He was a recent graduate of IPFW after studying Political Science. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving family include his parents; siblings Luke McKee of Ossian and Megan (Alex) Schantz of Bluffton; and grandmothers Betty McKee of Ossian and Vera Hammond of Decatur.
Wilbur F. Selking, 91, of Decatur, passed away at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Ossian Health Care.
He was born January 25, 1921, in Adams County, to the late Martin and Maria (Ehlerding) Selking.
He married Martha C. Franke, from Wells County, on January 31, 1942, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church rural Ossian; she passed away on February 2, 2001.
Larry David Starlin, 69, of Marion, died April 19 at the Veteran Administration Medical Center in Marion.
He married Gedda (Runyon) Starlin. Among survivors are his mother, Ruth E. Starlin of Dunkirk; son, John Paul (Marvella) Starlin of Las Vegas; daughter, Rachel Ann Starlin of Punta Gorda, Fla.; son, Coulter Quinn (Delilah) Starlin of Portland; and daughter, Gail Elizabeth Starlin of Indianapolis.
