The plan to close down the dispatch center at the Decatur police station and have all calls handled through the communications center in the county jail could produce a savings of up to $100,000 for the city, Mayor John Schultz said at Tuesday night's city council meetjng.
Schultz had initially unveiled the plans at Monday's meeting of the county commissioners, where he found support.
It's been something of a long and arduous effort, but the City of Decatur now has a five-year master plan for its parks system to go along with its new comprehensive plan and redevelopment commission.

Bill E. Beard, 75, of Monroeville, passed away at 10:04 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital following an extended illness.
Bill was born on July 21, 1936, in Van Wert County, to the late John W. and Marie M. (Allmandinger) Beard.
He married Shirley A. Adams on November 30, 1958; she preceded him in death on August 28, 2011.
Faye Gibson, 88, of Salem, Ohio, died there Saturday.
She was born in Decatur to Woodson and Laura (Gause) Ogg.
Among survivors are a brother, Richard (Ruby) Ogg of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl Gibson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday.
Barbara M. Schwartz, 5, of rural Decatur, died Tuesday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
