North Adams k-garten roundup slated April 19

    North Adams Schools will hold its annual Kindergarten Roundup from 4:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, at Southeast School. Children who turn five years of age on or before August 1 are eligible to enroll for the 2012-13 school year.
    Parents must bring a copy of their child's immunization record, birth certificate and Social Security number on April 19. Registration packets are currently available at the North Adams administration building.
    Parents who cannot attend the Roundup are asked to call the school.

Girls basketball state recap

    The IHSAA girls' basketball state tournament wrapped up this weekend with three of the eight teams representing four classes were from Fort Wayne, two games were decided by overtime, and one was ended on a dramatic last-second shot.
    In 1A, Canterbury won their fourth state title in five years by defeating Northeast Dubois, 64-54, and finished with a stellar 25-2 record on the season.

Jets vs. Knights tonight

     Adams Central will play tonight against the Bishop Luers Knights at the Stardome in Berne. The game was postponed from Saturday night because the Lady Knights of Luers were involved in the girls’ state finals. Come support the Jets tonight at South Adams. The game will begin at 7:30.

     Paul E. Gillespie, 76, of Decatur, died Friday at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.

Fire destroys barn near Craigville

    The Bluffton Fire Department was dispatched at 10:44 a.m. Friday to a barn fire at 4758 E 500 N near Craigville.
    A spokesman for the department said the structure was completely engulfed upon arrival and additional fire crews from Preble and Ossian were called in an attempt to help save the structure and any animals that may have been trapped inside.

Wells okays 80 wind turbines

    BLUFFTON, Ind. (AP) — A northeastern Indiana county has approved a wind energy company’s plans to erect about 80 power-generating wind turbines in the county.
    Members of the Wells County Area Plan Commission voted 6-4 early Friday to endorse Apex Wind Energy’s development plans.
    The News-Banner of Bluffton reports (http://bit.ly/wWI7lz) that the marathon meeting at Southern Wells Junior/Senior High School began about 7:30 p.m. Thursday and ran past 1 a.m. Friday.

Computer glitch delays Monroe’s utility bills

    Monroe Town Council President Al Lehman reported at Thursday's town council meeting that due to a computer problem, the printing and mailing of utility bills for Monroe residents has been delayed for the month of February.
    Lehman said he is hopeful the computer will be fixed today and that the bills will be mailed next week.
    Lehman also noted that the due date for payment will be extended by the same number of days the bill was delayed.

Few reserved seats left for Sunday Purdue show

    A few reserved-seat tickets are available for Sunday's performance here of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club and the Purduettes. They will be performing in Erekson Theater at Bellmont High School in a show starting at 3 p.m.
    Reserved-seat tickets for $15.00 are very limited, organizers said.

Russell S. Oyer

Russell S. Oyer, 73, of Berne, died Wednesday in Swiss Village.
He married Nancy (Liechty) Oyer on August 20, 1960, and she survives. Other survivors include a son, Tim (Kristen) Oyer, of Geneva.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at Swiss Village. Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Swiss Village Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to services.
Burial will be in MRE Cemetery, Berne.

67 high here 26 above normal

    Spring fever hit Decatur and Adams County — as well as most of Indiana — on Wednesday as the temperature soared to a surprising 67 degrees here on the final day of February.
    Decatur weather station officials said that reading was achieved Wednesday afternoon under sunny skies. The normal high for the date is 41
    Fort Wayne recorded a high of 66, which tied a record there.

    Bellmont played its first four games away from home but Thursday night lit up...
