Colts drop Manning

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Peyton Manning’s record-breaking run as quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts ended Wednesday, when owner Jim Irsay announced the team would release its best player.
    Both men paused frequently, fighting tears and their voices shaking, when they appeared together at a news conference at the Colts’ team complex.

City officers now carrying Tasers

    Decatur's police force is now armed ... with Tasers.
    Using strictly public donations, the city police department has purchased nine of the devices and they are being carried by the officers. The "road officers" — those who patrol — are carrying the Tasers with their sidearms.
    Another Taser is rotated among the shift commanders.

Signs project closer

    The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) was scheduled to take bids and then award a contract today for the massive street-sign project in Decatur.
    Street/Sanitation Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert told city council on Tuesday night that the project could begin within 45 to 60 days.
    All signs in the city will replaced and some permanently removed. Street marker posts will be replaced, but most stop sign posts will not, according to Gilbert.

Geneva enforces ban on trucks

    A Geneva town ordinance prohibiting trucks that are more than 25 feet long or more than 82 inches wide from parking on town streets is beginning to be more strictly enforced. According to Marshall Rob Johnson at Tuesday's town council meeting, this is the result of an increase in complaints. Johnson said the police department has already issued several written warnings.

AC sectional win an emotional one

    For Adams Central, 2012 collided with 1964 and 1966 last night.
    This year's Flying Jets tied the school record for season victories at 19 with a stirring and dominant 74-62 conquest of Bishop Luers in the Class 2A sectional title game at South Adams. AC (19-3) also posted 19 wins in the 1963-64 and 1965-66 seasons, under coach Vernon Zurcher and including the school's first 1,000-point scorer, Roger Schnepp.

Gutierrez commits to IUE

    Bellmont senior Allison Gutierrez has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Indiana University East starting with the 2012 season. Red Wolves coach Charlie Brown announced the signing Feb. 29.
    Gutierrez is a 5-6 defensive specialist who helped Bellmont High School win the 2010 Indiana Class 3A state championship. She was an honorable mention academic all-state selection and an all-conference libero as a senior. She ranked 13th in the state with 4.5 digs per game, according to the MaxPreps Web site.
