February 14th
Adams County Commissioners Chairman Doug Bauman reported during his State of the County address Monday that as the country continues to rebound from the failing economy, Adams County is fiscally sound.
Bauman noted that as the auditor's office advised, the Adams County Council and Commissioners will need to remain prudent and pro-active regarding spending in the upcoming years in order for the county to remain secure.

Mike Snyder of Decatur, a Democrat, has filed as a candidate for the 79th Indiana House of Representatives district. The seat is currently held by Matt Lehman, a Republican from Berne. He has filed for re-election.
Snyder is president of United Steelworkers Local 15173, representing workers at the Bunge North American plant in Decatur.
A recent Indiana State Department of Health survey has shown that Adams Memorial Hospital is one of the best in the state in making sure children born at its location are immunized against the Hepatitis B virus.
ISDH public health investigator Rupert E. Arceo recently presented hospital officials with a “Gold Award” in recognition of the facilities' practices in the prevention of perinatal Hepatitis B infections.
Marieda R. Neuenschwander, 84, of Berne, died Sunday at Swiss Village.
Among survivors are her son, David (Kay) Neuenschwander, of Berne, and a sister, Agnes (William) Habegger, of Berne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Neuenschwander; and a daughter, Debby Neuenschwander.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hope Church, rural Berne. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at MRE Cemetery.
Elizabeth M. “Betty” Miller, 80, of Decatur, died Sunday at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
FORT WAYNE — "If the kids wrestle anything like we did today this Friday night, we'll be in good shape. We just had an outstanding day," stated a euphoric Bellmont wrestling coach Brent Faurote Saturday night after the Braves foursome took the tourney by storm.
The Braves went an incredible 17-4 on the day, winning their last eight matches as Bobby Keuneke at 120, Brooks Faurote at 145, Brad Busse at 182 and Ben Baker at 195 stood atop the podium as champions in one of Bellmont's best-ever Fort Wayne showings.
BUTLER—Eastside's nickname is the Blazers, but Adams Central did all the blazing on Saturday in a commanding 82-58 victory.
The 13-2 Flying Jets cut loose with 11 threes in 21 tries (52%) and hit 28 of 53 attempts from the field (almost 53%) plus 15 of 21 free throws (71%).

Eileen Wolpert
Eileen Wolpert, 85, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
Eileen was born in Adams County on September 8, 1926, to the late Charles and Helen (Blec) Keller.
On September 1, 1949, she married Joseph R. Wolpert. He preceded her in death in 1973.

The deadline for candidates of the two major political parties to announce their intentions for 2012 election slots in Adams County came and went at noon on Friday. The passing of that deadline assured that no fewer than six inner-party contests will be decided during the May 8 primary election.

AUBURN — In what came down to what Bellmont coach John Baker would call a lack of "fire", the Braves went down in flames on the road at DeKalb last night in a conference match-up with the Barons, 45-33.
"It's the end of the year. These seniors should have a sense of urgency and we just don't have it right now," lamented coach Baker.
