    Geraldine “Gerry” Claire Smerz Aloisio, 85, died February 2, 2012, in Arlington, VA.     Geraldine was born December 30, 1926, in Chicago  to the late Robert and Tillie Watrin Smerz. She was married to Gene  P. Aloisio, who preceded her in death.

Regulating ‘adult’ businesses no simple task

    Members of the Decatur Plan Commission are learning that implementing changes to the city’s zoning regulations to govern adult and sexually-oriented business may be more difficult and time-consuming than first believed.
    The panel met for more than an hour Thursday afternoon to fine-tune recommendations first made public earlier this month surrounding changes to city zoning laws that would restrict where adult and sexually-oriented business may legally open their doors.

County to look at Music House

    Adams County Attorney Mark Burry presented a right of first refusal contract to the Adams County Commissioners Tuesday for the former Music House building on N. Second Street in Decatur.
    The commissioners have hired Dave Sholl, of Schenkel and Schultz Architecture out of Fort Wayne to examine the building as a possible site to house Adams Superior Court.
    The contract gives the county 90 days to inspect the property and come to a decision without fear the building will be sold before the process is complete.

Some Postal operations moving to Fort Wayne

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service plans to consolidate operations and move mail processing operations out of eight Indiana cities, including Gary, South Bend, Terre Haute and Lafayette, unless Congress enacts an alternative cost-cutting plan before May 15.
    The changes in Indiana, announced Thursday, are expected to eliminate at least 354 jobs and save at least $39.8 million.
    Chief Operating Officer Megan Brennan says the consolidation is necessary to keep the postal service viable.
