The city of Berne has agreed to provide $8,000 in County Economic Development Income Tax (CEDIT) funds for the purchase and erection of a welcome sign on the city's north side.
David Baumgartner, president of the Berne Community Development Corp., was present at last week's city council meeting to request the city's help in purchasing the "gateway sign."

MONROE—Both Adams Central and Bellmont were feeling good entering the cross-county rivalry on Monday night as the Squaws were riding two straight wins and the Lady Jets were two days removed from their best shooting game of the season in a rout of Bluffton.
When it came time for the tip, however, it was Bellmont who kept their play at a high level, led by Audrey Schultz' double-double, topping the Jets in a lopsided 38-22 win on the road.
D. Bryan Alderman, 50, of rural Decatur, died December 12, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital. David was born in Lancaster, Ohio, on September 28, 1962, to John G. and Joyce E. (Hunt) Meinke.
On July 24, 1982, he married Kathy M. (Lough) Alderman; she survives in Decatur.
Bryan was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Association, and was a welder-fabricator and mechanic for Fox Contractors.
Marjorie "Marge" Aughenbaugh, 83, of Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012.
Born in Decatur, Marge worked at Fort Wayne Community Schools for 29 years, retiring in 1995. She had been a member of Salem United Church of Christ. After retirement, she moved to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., where she volunteered at the Senior Citizens Community Center.
Anna Belle Gase, 91, of Decatur, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
Anna Belle was born in Adams County on August 13, 1921, to the late Jesse and Ada (Robinson) Rupert.
On June 22, 1940, she married Ambrose Gase; he preceded her in death on September 16, 1999.
Anna Belle was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and worked for General Electric with 27 years of service.
Mary C. Geimer, 94 of Decatur, died Sunday.
Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.
LeRoy J. Lehman, 87, of Berne, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012, at Swiss Village.
He was born to the late Levi and Emma (Liechty) Lehman on September 13, 1925.
LeRoy married Ellen Fisher on February 24, 1946; she preceded him in death.
Jacqueline D. Mere, 92, of Geneva, passed away at 1 a.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Swiss Village.
She was born in Adams County on Saturday, November 20, 1920.
Jacqueline graduated from Geneva High School in the class of 1938.
She married Hugh P. Mere on August 17, 1945, at Robins Field, Ga.; he preceded her in death on September 22, 1990.
Joyce (Ward) Moser, 84, of Wren, Ohio, passed away at 6:28 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Waynedale, Ind., on August 24, 1928, to the late Harley and Amanda (Neuenschwander) Ward.
She married Harry Moser on June 5, 1949, in Decatur; he survives in Wren.
Joyce was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert, Ohio. She was a homemaker and had previously worked for Edwards Studio in Decatur.
