Mary L. Ruble

December 19, 2012

    Mary L. Ruble, 77, of Monroeville, passed away at 4:07 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
    Mary was born in Convoy, Ohio, on Saturday, May 4, 1935, to the late William and Fannie (Sheets) Pancake.
    She married Roxy R. Ruble in Convoy on November 25, 1956; he preceded her in death on April 14, 2009.

Phillip J. Schurger

City may buy downtown building -- Stipulation could derail deal with hospital board

    The City of Decatur owns the corner of Second and Monroe streets where the onetime sweeper shop/Holthouse Drug Co. building stood before its recent demolition, and it's possible the city may one day own the building on the corner across Second St.
    Mayor John Schultz revealed at Tuesday night's city council meeting that the city made a bid on the onetime First State Bank building on the southeast corner of the intersection, a structure owned by the Adams Health Network (AHN) for a number of years.

SSHS provided benefits and key changes

    â—Ź Key school personnel and first responders completed National Incident Management Systems compliance and emergency crisis management training;
    â—Ź Tactical site/school safety surveys conducted at all schools;
    â—Ź School safety equipment installed/updated;

Jets win at Teepee first in 22 years

    Adams Central's Isaiah Bollenbacher stepped over Bellmont's Fletcher Shaneyfelt, scoring a 2:32 fall in the 220-pound match, and that did it.
    The Adams Central bench and crowd erupted as the Jets clinched the dual meet victory at the Teepee Tuesday night, snapping a 22-year losing skein to the Braves. The Jets, rated No. 1 in Class A, won nine of 14 matches to score a convincing 41-26 victory.

    Kathleen A. "Kate" Brandyberry, 83, of Decatur died Monday.

Mary C. Geimer

December 18, 2012

    Mary C. Geimer, 94, of Decatur, died December 16, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.    She was born in Adams County on June 5, 1918, to the late Julius C. and Anna I. (Bernard) Schultz.
    On June 5, 1940, she married Francis H. Geimer; he preceded her in death on April 24, 1986.
    Mary was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic church, its Rosary Society and Harvest House. She was a Deputy County Auditor for Adams County from 1960-1980.

Working to make Adams County schools safer

    In the wake of the latest incidence of school violence, this time at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the national conversation has turned to what the nation must to do protect our children, ensure their safety, and make sure that nothing like this ever happens again. 

Solid waste costs to rise

    Adams County will pay an additional $5.26 for each truck load of solid waste hauled from the county transfer station during 2013, and an additional 44 cents per ton to dispose of that refuse at the Jay County landfill.
    The increases were triggered by a 1.8 percent jump in the federal Consumer Price Index, as spelled out in contracts between the Adams County Solid Waste Management District and Luginbill Trucking and Waste Management Inc. for the hauling and disposal of that waste.
