MISHAWAKA — Brad Busse took the 182-pound championship while Bellmont teammates Daniel Gunsett and Logan Neher finished sixth in the annual Al Smith Wrestling Invitational Friday. The Braves, normally finishing in the top five, finished 10th overall as Penn won 215 to 214 over Merrillville.
Busse pinned Tony Rodriguez of Hobart in 4:28 of the semi-final match, then took the title as No. 1 seed Tanner Adams of Jimtown forfeited because of injury in the championship round. Adams was suffering a severe migraine headache.
Kent R. Freeby, 55, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, following a brief battle with cancer.
He was born in Decatur on Saturday, September 7, 1957, to the late Daniel R. Freeby, who died on December 23, 1992, and Eileen (Bieberich) Freeby, who survives.
He married Teri A. Chin on May 25, 1985, in Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur; she survives.
Carl J. Geimer, 88, of Angola, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
He was born on June 5, 1924, in Decatur to Herman F. and Matilda (Heiman) Geimer.
Carl married Marceille E. Denny on July 8, 1972, in Fort Wayne; she preceded him in death on June 30, 2006.
Alta L. Lautzenheiser, 94, of Decatur, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
She was born on June 17, 1918, to the late Earl R. and Elsie M. (Harmon) Haines.
Alta married Glen A. Lautzenheiser on February 12, 1944; he passed away on February 12, 1974.
Rita M. Vargas, 73, Wren, Ohio, passed away on December 26, 2012.

MISHAWAKA — Bellmont advanced three wrestlers, including unbeaten Brad Busse at 182 pounds, to Friday's placement round in the annual Al Smith Wrestling Invitational.
Freshman Daniel Gunsett went 4-1 at 113 pounds and advanced to the consolation side of the bracket for the Braves, as did Logan Neher at 152 pounds. Neher went 4-1 as well.
