Peter P. Clark

November 2, 2012

     Peter P. “Pete” Clark, 73, of Decatur, died Friday, November 2, 2012, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    He was born in Battle Creek, Mich., on January 8, 1939, to the late Arthur and Ruth (Huston) Clark.
    Pete retired from Automatic Sprinkler with 29 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43, Moose Lodge 1311 and Eagles Lodge 2653.

Mary E. Crider

    Mary E. Crider, 82, of Van Wert, Ohio, passed away at 6:47 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Van Wert County Hospital.
    She was born in Lima, Ohio, on October 17, 1930, to the late Francis C. and Sarah M. (Ault) Bauer Gleckler.
    On February 2, 1951, she married George W. "Bill" Crider; he passed away January 18, 2006.    

Polling sites for Tuesday's election

    The polling sites for Tuesday's election remain the same as for last spring's primary election.
    The sites, listed by precinct first, then by the poling site and address, are as follows:
    • Berne A, Berne Nazarene Church, 604 N Sprunger St., Berne.
    • Berne B, Lehman Park Pavilion, 212 Park Ave., Berne.
    • Berne C, Swiss Village, Berne.

Monroe system better, not fixed

    The ongoing issues with the town of Monroe's sewage system is getting better, but it's not fixed yet, according to Monroe Water and Sewage Assistant Superintendent Justin Shaffer.
    Shaffer told the Monroe Town Council Thursday that the pressure in the main sewer line running from Monroe to Berne is pumping at a much higher rate than before, but isn't quite where it needs to be.

Coroner, Recorder posts up for grabs

    Candiates for the position of Adams County coroner in the November 6 general election are Republican Leslie Cook  and Democrat Kristopher Burkhart.
  Cook, former coroner and currently the county’s deputy coroner, said her certification in forensic nursing and her passion for the position “lead me to believe I am the best candidate to be your coroner.”
  Burkhart, who resides in Monroe, is a registered paramedic and a 15-year member of the Monroe Fire Department.

    New school performance rankings released Wednesday by the Indiana Department of Education show the three high schools in Adams County earned "A" status for the 2011-12 school year.

    Three dozen or more local Democrats jammed into a room designed to hold less than half that many on Wednesday to greet a trio of candidates seeking statewide and national office.
    With less than a week remaining until the November 6 general election balloting, Decatur got a visit on Wednesday from U.S. Senate candidate Joe Donnelly, gubernatorial hopeful John Gregg  and his running mate, State Sen. Vi Simpson, D-Ellettsville.

Newcomer Snyder challenges Lehman

    Incumbent Republican State Representative Matt Lehman is being challenged in the November 6 general election by Democrat newcomer Mike Snyder for the 79th Indiana House of Representatives’ seat.

    Lehman resides at 663 Lehman St., Berne. He first ran for the 79th District House seat in 2008 when former Rep. Mike Ripley announced he would not seek re-election. Lehman was re-elected in 2010 without opposition. He was elected to the Adams County Council in 1994, serving as its president from 2002-2008.
