Frederick W. Kukelhan

October 17, 2012

    Frederick  W. Kukelhan, 81, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012, at his residence.
    He was born in Adams County on Tuesday, June 9, 1931, to the late Fred W. and Marie (Schueler) Kukelhan.
    Frederick was married to Carol Ann Adam; she passed away on February 13, 1978.

Ralph Smith

    Ralph Smith, of Monmouth, died Tuesday in Mission, Texas.
    Arrangements are pending at Haggard Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.

Former Braves' standout plays last home game

    Former Bellmont record-holder Sam Meyer played his final home game as a St. Francis Cougar last night as Grace College spoiled senior night with a 3-0 victory over the home team in men's soccer.

Stephen C. Omlor

October 16, 2012

    Stephen C. “Steve” Omlor, 70, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital.
    He was born in Adams County on February 13, 1942, to the late Charles A. Omlor and M. Leona (Folck) Lose.
    Steve married Paula L. Kahn on January 17, 1976.
    He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Semeitz Council 864, where he served as Past Grand Knight.

Loren L. Stauffer

    Loren L. Stauffer, 70, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012, at Woodcrest.
    He was born to the late Everett Stauffer and Eileen (Steiner) Stauffer on March 3, 1942.
    Loren married Doris Daniel on April 14, 1965; she survives.
    He was a member of the Berne Evangelical Church. He was employed at Indiana University, Bloomington and later at Berco in Berne.

Some good courthouse news

    Finally some good news regarding the renovation project on the Adams County Courthouse. After initially believing contractors were going to need to replace an additional 500-700 bricks, that number has been dropped to approximately 50 bricks, according to Dave Meyer of building maintenance.

AC band to next round

    The Adams Central High School Marching Band is now ranked among the top 20 Class D bands in the state and has qualified for the Indiana State Music School Association (ISSMA) Semistate competition.
    Last Saturday, marching bands from throughout Indiana competed in regional ISSMA contests at four sites: Chesterton High School, Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Evansville Central High School and Lafayette Jefferson High School.

Courtesy of county, city gains streets

    Who maintains which roads in the Decatur area should now be a lot less confusing.
    Decatur City Attorney Tim Baker, Adams County Highway Department Superintendent Mark Mitchel, and the city's Street/Sanitation Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert met with the Adams County Commissioners Monday to discuss giving certain streets that currently belong to the county over to the city.

Five Squaws named to NHC teams

    The Northeast Hoosier Conference has released just before sectionals the all-conference volleyball teams and as expected it is filled with Squaws and Chargers.
    Carroll knocked Bellmont off the pedestal earlier this season giving them their only conference loss of the season and the Chargers earned the regular season crown with an undefeated slate (7-0).

Ruby V. (Rambo) Blazer

    Ruby V. (Rambo) Blazer, 94 of Decatur, went to be with her Saviour on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    She was born in Convoy, Ohio, on October 10, 1918, to the late George E. and Charlotte M. (Kreischer) Ladd.
    Ruby first married Glenn Rambo in July 1934; he died on January 21, 1967. She then married Fred Blazer on January 6, 1968; he died on October 11, 2011.
