October 23rd
Enos Bontrager, 62, of Berne, died Monday at his residence.
Visitation will be from 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Fairhaven Mennonite Church, 13513 State Road 4, Goshen. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, also at the church.
Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Goshen.
Arrangements were handled by Miller-Stewert Funeral Home.
A Decatur woman is listed in critical condition this morning at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne following a single-vehicle mishap at 7:30 p.m. Monday. In another incident, a woman was struck by a driver later cited for driving while intoxicated.
In the 7:30 mishap, a witness told the Adams County Sheriff's Department he observed a car headed southeast on Salem Road near U.S. 33 suddenly leave the road and enter a ditch; he said the vehicle flew sideways approximately 10-15 feet in the air, according to the department's report.
Acting on recommendations contained in a recent Indiana Municipal Insurance Program report, Berne City Council on Monday voted to remove two pieces of playground equipment that have been staples at the city's Lehman Park for decades.
St. Joseph’s 8th grade girls won the CYO volleyball tournament over the weekend held at St.Charles in Ft. Wayne. On Tuesday they defeated St. John's New Haven in two sets, then bested St. Joe/St.Elizabeth in 3 sets on Thursday to set up the championship against St. Charles who has won the championship the last three years in a row. The Coms beat St. Charles in three sets 25-23, 14-25, 15-12.

The former South Adams Elementary School principal accused of engaging in sexual contact with a student at another school, is out of custody on a $35,000 bond after appearing for an initial hearing in a Michigan City court on Friday.
Brian Strauss, who resides in Michigan City, is charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and one count each of child solicitation and vicarious sexual gratification. The charges could bring a maximum prison sentence of 39 years.
Unemployment in Adams County hit a four-year low during September. According to figures released Friday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Adams County's jobless rate plummeted to 6.6 percent during September. That represents the lowest unemployment figure experienced in the county since June of 2008, when unemployment stood at 5.5 percent.
September's unemployment rate was down .7 percent from the county's 7.3 percent reading in August.
Seth T. Curtis, 26, Portland, who pleaded guilty to five felony charges in the August 7, 2011, attempted robbery of the CVS Pharmacy in Berne, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term this week by Adams Circuit Court by Judge Fredrick A. Schurger
Curtis, who was shot by an off-duty officer in the CVS store, pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery, three counts of criminal confinement, and possession of paraphernalia. A charge of unlawful possession of a syringe was dismissed.
Mildred L. Brinneman, 94, of Berne, died Saturday at Swiss Village.
Among survivors are a daughter, Kathryn (Jerry) Powers of Warren, and a son, Lorin (Frances) Brinneman of Berne.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Swiss Village Chapel, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery, Wells County.

OSSIAN—Playing an opponent he readily admitted he knew little about, Bellmont volleyball coach Craig Krull couldn't be faulted if he and his Squaws entered Saturday's championship game of the IHSAA class 3A sectional 23 with not an eye toward their foe, the Mississinewa Indians, but perhaps to Tuesday night's regional match-up with the number one team in class 3A, the Yorktown Tigers.
BLUFFTON—Adams Central ensured that Bishop Luers would not win a fourth straight sectional title on Saturday when they knocked out the Knights in the semi-finals of the tournament in a three-game sweep 25-22, 25-16, 25-11.
Then the Lady Jets breezed by the Bluffton Tigers in three despite home-court advantage to earn their 13th sectional title in school history and first since 2008. Luers was king of the castle from 2009-11 and were primed to compete for a fourth looking equally as competitive on paper with AC.
