Coil to get Decatur Award

    Veteran Adams County Commissioner Edwin E. Coil has been named the 2011 recipient of the Stephen Decatur Award.
    The Chamber of Commerce also announced that the First Bank of Berne will receive its Large Business Award for this year and the Small Business Award will go to Custom Car Care.

Monroe sewage pumps reported in need of a lift

    Talk at the Monroe Town Council Thursday evening centered around ongoing problems with the lift station sewage pumps located on the east and west sides of town.
    Monroe's water and sewage assistant superintendent, Justin Shaffer, reported the pumps, which are more than 30 years old, are in dire need of replacement.

Noetzel to seek county council seat

    Adams County Republican Party Chairman Rob Noetzel of Decatur has announced he will seek the Republican nomination for one of three at-large seats on the Adams County Council. He will be a candidate in this year's May 8 primary election.

Jets thump Patriots 54-19

    MONROE — Adams Central won 10 of 14 matches, drubbing Heritage 54-19 Thursday, earning at least a share of the ACAC dual meet wrestling title with it's sixth loop win in as many meets.
    The Jets, 20-2 overall, are heavily favored to wrap up the crown Saturday in they face Bluffton in the first round of the Adams Central Superdaul. That match will begin at 9 a.m.

Braves complete 7-0 sweep of NHC duals

    Bellmont freshman 160-pounder Brett Baker hit a chin rip and flattened Homestead junior Brennan Durr in 3:14, starting a string of six straight wins as the No. 18 Bellmont Braves thumped Homestead 55-14 Thursday night, capping a perfect 7-0 NHC wrestling campaign.
    "That wraps up another undefeated dual season in the conference, so now the challenge is to come back in a few weeks and win the tournament," stated Bellmont coach Brent Faurote.

Esther A. M. Graber

    Esther A. M. Graber, infant daughter of Alvin L. and Martha H.B. (Schwartz) Graber, of Geneva, diied Wednesday in Adams Memorial Hospital, Decatur.
    She was born at the hospital on Wednesday.
    She was a member of the Old Order Amish.

Mary Ann Narkter

January 6, 2012

    Mary Ann Narkter, 88, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012.
    She was born in Decatur on November 14, 1923, to Raymond and Mary A. (Meyer) Voglewede.
    Mary Ann was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for many years, serving in the choir, and as a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She served four years as a stenographer for the Army-Navy Specification Branch at Wright Field during WWII.
