Rites are set for victim of home fire

January 5, 2012

    Funeral services for Dean Ingmire will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home.
    Ingmire, 59, died Tuesday in a fire at his home in Roe Acres, north of Monmouth.    Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to services. (See obituary notices.)
    Decatur Police Chief Ken Ketzler said this morning that police officers will be attending the funeral en masse, in uniform. A bagpiper is expected to be involved in the ceremony.

John Crider is named fire chief at Berne

    Berne Mayor William McKean has named James Beitler as the city attorney to top a list of appointments announced this week by the incoming mayor.
    Beitler, a longtime attorney in Berne, is a partner with David Baumgartner in the law office of Baumgartner and Beitler. He formerly served as city attorney under the tenure of Mayor Blaine Fulton. He will take over the position from Bob Biberstein, who served for more than six years in the administration of former mayor John Minch.

City plans to drop storm water board

    Without a storm water management director since the mid-December resignation of Joan Eichhorn, it now appears Decatur soon will be without its storm water committee, too.
    At its meeting on Tuesday night, city council moved to dissolve the committee and place the storm water department under the direction of the city's board of works and safety.

Duane (Dean) Ingmire

    Duane (Dean) Ingmire, 59, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, January 3, at his residence following a house fire.
    He was born on July 2, 1952, in Fort Wayne to Chester and Gladys (Ohneck) Ingmire.
    Mr. Ingmire was a second-shift dispatcher for the Decatur Police Department for 16 years. He was also employed by Hitchcock Concrete in Decatur and a respected firearms, tactics, and self-defense instructor for multiple law enforcement agencies and individual civilians throughout the state of Indiana.

Fuelling’s charge keys mat Jets past Lions 56-21

    LEO-CEDARVILLE — Adams Central heavyweight Joe Fuelling fought for some leverage then chucked the bigger Bryce Hager to the mat twice in the final minute for a 9-6 win Wednesday, igniting a seven-match win skein as the Jets dumped ACAC rival Leo 56-21.
    The win put the Jets clearly in control of the ACAC regular-season race with a 5-0 mark. A victory tonight over Heritage would clinch the crown for the Jets, now 19-2 overall.

Athlete of the week

    Nick Fuelling is this week's Athlete of the Week after a career-high performance against county-rival South Adams leading the Braves to a 68-56 win. Fuelling had 26 points on a nearly flawless 11-for-12 shooting performance from the floor owning the paint for the entirety of the game. Nick also led the team with seven rebounds and swatted a shot in the contest.
