Duane (Dean) Ingmire, 59, a 16-year reserve officer and a 14-year dispatcher with the Decatur Police Department, died this morning in a fire inside his home in Roe Acres, north of Monmouth.
Firefighters were sent to the home at 217 W. Roeville Road at 8:36 a.m. when the 911 center at the Adams County Sheriff's Department received a call from a neighbor of Ingmire's who saw smoke coming from the home.
All those mild holiday conditions went by the wayside in Decatur and Adams County on Monday as Old Man Winter took a swipe at the area to begin the new year.
The coldest temperatures of the season combined with a fresh one inch of snow to slicken streets in the city and county, leading to a number of slideoffs yesterday. An Adams County Sheriff's Department spokesman said this morning there were no known injuries.

Beverly J. Bassett, 78, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital.
Beverly was born on May 21, 1933, in Decatur, to the late Walter and Helen (Ross) Lister. On September 6, 1953, she married James R. “Jim” Bassett. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2010.
Troy L. Dailey, 38, of Berne, died Monday.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne.
Richard “Dick” Gage, 78, of The Villages, Florida, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012.
Mr. Gage was born in Adams County and moved to The Villages from Bedford, Indiana in 1991. He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Elks 826 and a member of the Knights of Columbus 1166. Locally, he is a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church.
A fire at a home in Roe Acres north of Monmouth late this morning claimed the life of the home's resident.
Authorities were withholding the identify of the victim pending notification of relatives.
City firefighters were dispatched at 8:36 a.m. and other area fire departments were called to assist.
