MONROE — The Lady Starfires of South Adams gave the heavily favored Lady Jets of Adams Central a run for their money at the Hangar, but at the end of the night, AC was left standing with a 3-0 sweep of the Stars with the scores 25-20, 25-13, 25-17.
It looked like South Adams was going to come in and steal the first game when they blasted out of the gate on a 10-3 start causing Lady Jets coach Jeremi Schortgen to call an early timeout.
WATERLOO — Bellmont served notice early on the DeKalb Barons there was a reason the last time Bellmont lost a NHC volleyball match came when most of Thursday night's players were back in elementary school.

Adams Memorial Hospital has been named as one of the top 100 critical care access hospitals in the United States, according to information released Wednesday at the National Rural Health Association’s Critical Access Hospital Conference being held in Kansas City, Missouri.
Adams Health Network President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Nordwick delivered the news to the AHN board of trustees Wednesday night at their monthly meeting, saying “this is truly something we can all be really proud of.”
A group called Decatur Friends of the Theatre is being created to start a community theater and, at a meeting on Thursday evening attended by 13 people, two more meeting dates were scheduled.
The theatre group is an outgrowth of the success of the locally-written and locally-directed play "C.O.D. (Cuties of Decatur)" in August. Some 360 people saw the play on its four show dates and, after expenses were paid, "C.O.D." had a profit of just over $2,000.

Those 10 words form the basis of the defense in the Wells Circuit Court trial of Tyler White, according to a story in the Bluffton News-Banner. The trial may last as long as two weeks.
On the first day after a jury was empaneled, the lead defense attorney, James Voyles of Indianapolis, spoke those words as he opened White's side of the case.
Manuel J. Lopez, 56, of Berne, died Thursday in Chalet Village nursing home.

Andrea Fruchte took a pass from Ashley Piper and wound her way 25 or so yards through several defenders en route to the game's only touchdown with just 1:34 left in Wednesday night's powder puff football game at Bob Worthman Stadium.
That provided the Bellmont High School juniors with a 7-0 victory over the seniors on a damp night in the Homecoming activity.
The seniors biggest threat came late in the first half when they drove inside the juniors' 10-yard line before the clock ran out.
The location of a September 16 police standoff in Decatur, during which a Berne man was shot and critically injured by law enforcement authorities outside the Adams County Superior Court building, was not a random one, according to a county jurist.
And the proximity of the incident to the court building on Third Street could force local policy-makers to implement many of the court security measures recommended more than 10 years earlier.
The physician with the longest running tenure in the Adams Health Network (AHN) has announced that he has retired from his medical practice.
Dr. H.S. Lee, who has been actively involved as a general surgeon and family practice physician in Adams County since 1973, noted in a letter being sent to his patients this week that “it is with many mixed emotions that I write to inform you that I am discontinuing my practice due to personal issues.”
Belmont Squaws Soccer team played Woodland in a down pour Tuesday night at Kreager Field, winning 7-0.
The field was flooded making it difficult to score in the beginning of the game for either team, but Bellmont continued their patient play and possession soccer as the midfielders Kylie Beery, Amberly Guiterezz, and Alyssa Strickler continued to pass the ball well.
