Macke welcomed into Golf Hall of Fame

    Mike Macke was recently elected to the Decatur Men’s Golf Association Hall of Fame, just a few days after becoming eligible, while still an active and strong player.
    In adding Macke to its membership, the men’s golf association said it recognizes his leadership of Decatur Golf, his work in developing and encouraging young talent, his high quality of play and competitive spirit, and is to be commended for helping to grow and enhance competitive golf in Decatur.

APLS e-book collection now can be downloaded

    The Adams Public Library System has announced that its eBook collection is now compatible with the Amazon Kindle eBook reader.
    According to the announcement, library patrons in Decatur and Geneva can now download popular and classics eBooks to a Kindle device or any mobile device running the free Kindle application, such as iPhone, iPad, Android and more.
    Also, nearly every other eReader currently has the capability to download library eBooks, said APLS Director Kelly Ehinger.

Son of city man is sentenced in hire-murder plot

    "This is a heck of a way to resolve a longstanding family dispute."
    That comment on Wednesday from federal Judge William C. Lee in Fort Wayne on Wednesday summed up his feelings as he sentenced a Markle man, Troy Hott, to 30 months in prison for hiring somone to kill his father, Don Hott of Decatur.

City man to prison ...like his accomplice

    Decatur resident Isaac J. Gase was given four concurrent two-year prison sentences on Wednesday in Common Pleas Court at Van Wert, Ohio, for convictions of burglarizing four houses in Van Wert County in May of 2010.
    Gase, 29, also faces similar charges in Mercer County.
    His accomplice, Crystal Stauffer of Adams County, was given two years in prison last year for her part in the Van Wert County crimes.

David L. Bailey

    David L. Bailey, 66, of rural Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
    David was born in Decatur on May 1, 1945, to Robert L. and Donna B. (Landrum) Bailey, who are deceased.
    On August 11, 1988, he married Carol A. (Rumschlag) Brandenburg.
    David attended St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur.
    He retired from Bunge North America, formerly Central Soya, in 2007 after 37 years.

Karry L. Bowman

    Karry Lee Bowman, 60, of Decatur, died Sunday at home.
    He was born on March 26, 1951, in Decatur to Robert W. and Beulah M. Biberstine Bowman, who are deceased.
    Among survivors are a daughter, Heidi Bowman of Decatur; a brother, Larry R. "Bodie" Bowman of Woodburn; and three sisters, Elaine Harmon, Mrs. Kevin (Sandra) Adams, and Patricia Oetting, all of Decatur.
    Aa memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Damascus Road Church at 1040 S. 11th St.
