Bellmont was the only Adams County volleyball team to taste victory on the court Thursday night as the Squaws started their Northeast Hoosier Conference season with a walk in the park over New Haven 25-7, 25-17, 25-8.
In ACAC play, Adams Central, which has been making it a habit recently of going five games at the varsity level, was squeezed out by Woodlan 3-2 by scores of 19-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-18, 9-15. South Adams meanwhile fell to conference rival Heritage in three straight rounds, 18-25, 20-25, 12-25.
The North Adams school board approved a voluminous list of personnel comings and goings at its meeting on Tuesday, ranging from the resignation of an elementary school teacher to the filling of several after-school program positions and athletic appointments.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Five people are accused of skimming about $1 million from charity bingo games at an American Legion post near Fort Wayne.
The Journal Gazette reports that Allen County court records show that an Indiana Gaming Commission investigator believes that at least $988,000 was illegally taken from the games at American Legion Post 330 in New Haven and used to pay people who were supposed to be volunteers.
The sixth annual St. Mary's Fall Fest, a fundraiser for St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and St. Joseph Catholic School in Decatur, opens a three-day run today.

Clifford Lee Hirschy, 77, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2011, in Granbury, Texas.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Cross Community Church, 315 W. Main St., Berne.
Mr. Hirschy was born on February 15, 1934, in Decatur to Amos and Rosalene Marsh Hirschy.
He married Vera Wogenstein on July 21, 1979, in Fort Wayne.
He was an engineer and a tool-and-die maker in the aerospace industry.
Irene J. Lloyd, 60, of Decatur, died Thursday in Lutheran Hospital at Fort Wayne.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard, Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.
