    The edge that Craig Krull's Squaws took to Bishop Dwenger Tuesday was definitely not present last night as the defending 3A state champs had their home opener, taking out Woodlan with a less-than-spectacular showing, 25-12, 25-15, and 25-15.
    "We didn't seem to  have a whole lot of energy. I think we were caught off guard because the jayvee match lasted about a half hour and we were still in the locker room, so we got off to a slow start," explained Krull.

    MONROE ― “I've always said there's gonna be a lull in every game and every match and that you just have to play through it," noted Adams Central volleyball coach Jeremi Schortgen Thursday night after her Jets rallied in a  somewhat lethargic second game to knock off a senior-laden Eastbrook team 25-18, 26-24, 25-15.

City’s 175th celebration opens today

    Decatur's long-awaited 175 Anniversary Celebration officially kicked off today, starting a 10-day run which coincides with the annual Kekionga Festival.
    Citywide garage sales and a co-ed slo-pitch tournament are today's opening events. Two performances of the "Cuties of Decatur" were held Wednesday and Thursday, and a dinner-play performance is scheduled tonight.

    Samuel Rugg lives again!
    The man who founded Decatur in 1836, the same year that Adams County was created, is being brought back to life by Michael Casper, a retired elementary school principal here, while one of Rugg's three wives, Susannah, is being recreated by Casper's wife, RoxyAnn.
    The longtime Decatur residents are giving historical presentations to third-grade students in the North Adams school district as well as those at St. Joseph Catholic School and St. Peter-Immanuel Lutheran School.

Greenway Gallop is scheduled

    A new event in Decatur this year, part of the Adams County Run/Walk Challenge Series, is the Edward Jones/Kekionga 5K Greenway Gallop, which will be held during the Kekionga Festival and the city's 175th celebration.
     The Greenway Gallop will be held on Sunday, August 28, starting at 2 p.m. at the Kekionga encampment behind Riverside Center. Runners will follow an out-and-back trail along the Rivergreenway Trail and finish near the gazebo at Riverside Center.

Mary K. Lehman

    Mary Kay Lehman, 65, of Decatur, died on August 19, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    Mary was born in Adams County on January 29, 1946, to Joyce and Dolores L. (Omlor) Ellenberger.
    On May 28, 1966, she married Don L. Lehman.
    Mary was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and worked for CTS Corp. in Berne for 26 years.

    Dorothy B. Springer, 96, of Decatur, died on Wednesday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.
