MONROE—The HME Crushers lived up to their name Tuesday night in the play-in round of the double-elimination Sandy Koufax League tournament by smashing 12 hits, four of which were for extra bases, and easily defeated the Bluffton Parks team, 18-2.
The Crushers tallied five in the first, four in the second, seven in the third, and then polished the game off with two in the fourth.

$1,000 city pay hikes OKed

July 6, 2011

If the State of Indiana doesn't wreak havoc with Decatur's 2012 budget, city employees will be getting raises of $1,000 each after going without increases this year and last.

The passing on Tuesday of the deadline for filing petitions of candidacy for the November 8 general election left just one contested race to be determined in Decatur, but presented voters with a nearly full slate of candidates in Berne.
Voters in Decatur will have only one seat to fill. Incumbent Barb Engle, a Democrat, will be challenged by Republican Cameron Collier for the at-large seat on Decatur City Council.

There was one a hitch, though, and it was a major one: problems with the sound system.
Chief celebration organizer Adam Eguia attended Tuesday night's city council meeting to issue plenty of praise and thanks, and to address problems with the sound system.
