    The financial portrait for the Adams Health Network presented to AHN trustees Wednesday night continues to show a positive bottom line despite the fact that admissions were down nearly six percent from the previous month.

Erekson Theatre to sparkle on Saturday

    Just a few weeks after performing the spring musical, the Bellmont High School show choirs are at it again, this time with their yearly exposition, Sparkle.
    Sparkle will be held this Saturday at 7 p.m. in Erekson Memorial Theatre.  Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens, and all children under five are free.

Veda L. Edlund

    Veda L. Edlund, 87, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
    Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, she grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota; lived most of her married life in Michigan; and moved to Indiana after the death of her husband in 1973.
    She was a homemaker and educator.
    While in Fort Wayne, she worked for 10 years with the Brookside-Parkerdale Association neighborhood watch.

R. Madeleine Houk

    Mrs. R. Madeleine Youse Houk, 93, of Decatur, died on May 17, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    She was born on August 22, 1917, in Monroeville to Dwight and Olga Brown Youse of Hoagland, where she was reared and educated.
    She married Robert C. Houk on July 21, 1943; he passed away in May of 1999.

Norman V. Miller

    Norman V. Miller, 72, of Decatur, died Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital at Fort Wayne.
     Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.

    Richard A. Roudebush, 65, of Decatur, died Wednesday at Adams Memorial Hospital.

Andrews turns down BHS football offer

     "What happend was that we showed up at the board meeting and a lot of those hopes — our leap of faith — were crushed. We settled back, talked through some things, then came to the conclusion that this was not the right opportunity,  not the right time for us," stated a gracious Nate Andrews, after announcing Tuesday afternoon that he decided against signing a contract to coach football and teach at Bellmont High School.

Braves draw Peru, Jets to meet Tigers in baseball tourneys

    INDIANAPOLIS—Pairings for the annual baseball sectional were announced Tuesday by officials at the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA).
    Sectionals will be held at Bellmont and Bishop Luers for schools involving Adams County teams (the Luers sectional is held at the Indiana Tech field in Fort Wayne).

An estimated 1,000 mourners, led by Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese Bishop Kevin Rhoadez — who presided over the Mass of Resurrection — paid their last respects to Sister Margaret Rose Donnelly on Tuesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur. Burial followed  in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery here. Sister Margaret Rose, who moved to Decatur in the mid-1990s, died last Thursday at 76. Among the pallbearers was Decatur Mayor John Schultz, at the front of the group.

Anspaugh may visit for 175th

    One of Decatur's most famous native sons, David Anspaugh, may be returning here for the city's 175th birthday celebration in August.
    Larry Isch, co-chairman of the committee organizing the celebration, said at Tuesday night's Decatur City Council meeting that "if nothing gets in the way" the director of "Hoosiers" and "Rudy" will visit the city for the celebration.
