Mary Millington Pratt

May 23, 2011

    Mary Millington Pratt, 87, of Decatur, died on Friday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community.
    She married George W. Millington on December 23, 1939 in Decatur and he passed away on January 29, 1967. In 1975, she married Walter E. Pratt and he passed away in 1998.
    She worked for 20 years with the Adams-Wells Association for the Retarded and Handicapped and attended Cornerstone Church, formerly known as Decatur Missionary Church.

Evelyn J. Johnson

    Evelyn Justine Johnson, 87, of Shelby County, Indiana, died on Sunday, May 15, 2011, in Franklin United Methodist Community at Franklin.
    Born on June 18, 1923, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Guy and Gladys McClure Strickler.
    She married Joseph Meredith Johnson on November 30,1939; he preceded her in death in 2002.

Ted Swoveland

    Ted Swoveland, 74, of Berne, died Thursday in Chalet Village Nursing Home.
    He was born to Robert and Gertrude Swoveland.
    Among survivors are his wife, Shirley; a son, Bradley Swoveland of Sturgis, Michigan; a daughter, Marsha Swoveland of Pleasant Mills; three brothers, including Charles Swoveland of rural Decatur; and three sisters, including Linda Anderson of Decatur.

Edward Hockemeyer

     Edward Hockemeyer, 89, of Monroeville, died at 3:35 p.m. Saturday in The Village of Heritage nursing home in Monroeville.
    He was born on August 15, 1921, in Allen County to William F. and Clara Thieme Hockemeyer.
    He married Catherine M. Springer on September 17, 1944; she passed away on March 4, 2010.
    He was a lifelong farmer and a member of St. John Lutheran Church (Flatrock).

Paul Brown

    Paul "Pete" Brown, 76, of Ohio City, Ohio, died at 1 p.m. Saturday in his residence.
    He was born in Adams County on April 10, 1935, to Herman and Eva Clive Kreischer Brown.
    He married Dorothy Fast on June 14, 1958, in Union Chapel Church of rural Decatur. She survives.
    Pete retired in 1986 from International Harvester with 35 years of service and also was a Harrison Township farmer in Ohio.

Levi D.J. Schwartz

     Levi D.J. Schwartz, 77, of rural Berne, died Sunday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    He was born to Joe E. and Dehlia Schwartz Schwartz.

Berdella Liechty

     Berdella Liechty, 73, of Berne, died today in Adams Memorial Hospital.
     Funeral arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne.

AC girls win a double di;

    WABASH — Adams Central rocked out 25 hits in a 10-1, 14-3 double-header sweep at Southwood Saturday, improving to 15-6 on the season.
    The Jets pounded out seven runs in the first two innings of the first game, and then the solid Jets' defense took control of the game Sammie Baker slammed three singles and Olivia Macklin knocked in three runs for the Lady Jets.

Weather slows hospital projects

    Wet weather in the area has not affected only sporting events.
    Adams Health Network (AHN)  Executive Director Marvin L. Baird reported to AHN trustees at their meeting this week that construction work at two of the organization's work sites have crawled to a snail's pace due to wet grounds.

AC's New Tech gets high praise

    "I get tingles."
    Those three words were used by a veteran Adams Central teacher, Harry Anderson, to express how happy he feels about using the New Tech (NT) style of team instruction.
    At the May meeting of the AC school board, a lengthy presentation about the first year of NT at AC was made by four teachers, five students, and high school Principal Sean McConnell.
