Hornets take pair from softball Jets

    MONROE—Adams Central was on the short end of 4-3 and 6-1 tallies in a varsity softball doubleheader played Saturday against Angola at the AC diamond.
    The opening game went extra innings with Meghan Schwartzengraber's two-out double scoring the game-winner in the top of the eighth. Schwartzengraber also homered for Angola in a three-run fourth off losing AC hurler Sydnee Peterson and went the distance on the mound to collect the win with seven strikeouts.

2011 DBA season opens

    The Decatur Baseball Association officially kicked off its season Saturday with Opening Day festivities. Besides two official games and a practice game, pictures were taken of most of the teams, and Courtesy Motors General Manager Jim Kelley attended and tossed out the first ball.
    Through a national Chevy Youth Baseball Program, Courtesy Motors of Decatur is backing Decatur Baseball with equipment, a monetary contribution, and through the sale of raffle tickets for two automobiles and other prizes.

Crash claims Adams Central graduate

    The Adams County Sheriff's Department at 9:25 a.m. today released a report on last Friday night's fatal traffic accident on Piqua Rd. in the rural Decatur area.
    Drake T. Hill, 21, of Wren, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.

Vandals hit ball fields

    Adams County Crime Stoppers is asking for the public's help in solving acts of vandalism at the Monmouth baseball fields during the weekend of May 6-8.
    Backstop nets were cut down, other nets were stretched and moved, a backstop was broken into pieces, and a pitcher's block was dented. Officials also said a batting cage frame was bent  and the men's bathroom door was damaged when someone threw a large concrete block at it.

Drake T. Hill

    Drake Thomas Hill, 21, of Wren, Ohio, died Friday night following a traffic accident on Piqua Rd. near State Rd. 101 in Adams County.
    He was born on August 17, 1989, on Decatur. His father is Thomas J. Hill (and fiance Jaime Zimmerman) of Monroe and his mother is the former Tonya J. Hirschy, now Mrs. Jeff Hoffman of Bluffton.
