Sister Margaret Rose Donnelly

     Sister Margaret Rose Donnelly, SSND, 76, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    She was born Barbara Ann Donnelly on September 14, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, into the Irish-Catholic home of the late William Thomas and Margaret (Robine) Donnelly.

Charles A. Fisher

    Charles A. "Butch" Fisher, 68, of Decatur, died at his residence on Thursday, May 12, 2011.
    Charles was born in Decatur on April 9, 1943, to Homer and Agnes (Garner) Fisher, who are deceased.
    Charles was a self-employed barber, working in the Westland Mall at Fort Wayne. He attended Common Ground Church in Decatur and was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur.

    What a welcome to Decatur for Nate Andrews, and his family, received Tuesday night when he attended the North Adams School Board meeting. Wow!
    I wish I could say I was surprised. The way things have gone for this school board, something like this was almost predictable.

Squaws, Jets draw semi-final berths in area sectionals

    Bellmont softball fans should get their hiking boots out, Norwell has once again been awarded the area girls softball sectional.
    Bellmont will take on Maconaquah in the semi-final round of the Norwell 3A Softball Tournament on Tuesday, May 24, at 5:15 p.m.
    Norwell (6-12) will meet Peru in the only quarter-final contest on Monday, May 23, 5:15 p.m. and that winner will meet Fort Wayne Wayne in a semi-final contest on Wednesday, May 25, also at 5:15.

Virgil D. Henschen

    Virgil D. Henschen, 98, of Wakarusa, Indiana, died Wednesday at home.
    He was born in Decatur on April 2, 1913, to Charles and Elta C. Ginter Henschen.
    Among survivors are his second wife, Bessie. His first wife, Ruth, died on November 28, 1992.
    Other survivors are a son, Gene Henschen of Nappanee; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Sandra) Loucks of Nappanee and Mrs. Bill (Karen) Jessup of Goshen; and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Phil (Linda) Nusbaum of Elkhart.

Olive M. Morrison

    Olive M. Morrison, 86, of New Haven, a former longtime Decatur resident, died at 8:40 a.m. Thursday in the residence of granddaughter Dana Morrison in New Haven, where she had lived for the past year.
    She was born in Willshire Township of Van Wert County, Ohio.
    She married Charles W. Morrison on May 12, 1943, in Wren, Ohio; passed away in December of 1996.
    She worked at the former General Electric Co. plant in Decatur during World War II and was a homemaker most of her life.

No bids for SA property

    South Adams Schools Superintendent Scott Litwiller said during this week's school board meeting that there have not been any bids submitted on the former Berne elementary school property.
    Bidding was opened May 2 for the entire tract of real estate which totals 4.815 acres. Bidding will close at 3 p.m. on June 1. After the open bidding period ends, board members will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. that day to review the bids and to possibly accept a bid.

Adams Central construction said only three days behind

    The Adams Central school board authorized paying a $1,007,102.83 check for the school's construction and renovation project at the May meeting of the board, then heard a progress report from Barry Ehinger, the overseer of the work.
    The money goes to Weigand Construction of Fort Wayne, prime contractor for the design-build project.

     Sister Margaret Rose Donnelly, SSND, 76, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    Her body will be received at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011, immediately followed by the reciting of the Holy Rosary.
