An effort to find a physical outlet for a hyper-active six-year-old boy started a series of events 13 years ago which dramatically changed the lives of the Hess family.
"I was a really hyper kid and dad wanted to get me involved in a sport, but I was too young for soccer or some of the other sports," said Cody Hess of his father, Greg.
"She's probably going to play outside mid for us. She has awesome speed, and she's a smart player," praised St. Francis College girls soccer coach Christy Young, speaking of Bellmont senior Jessica Brewer.
Brewer recently committed to play soccer for Young, who has coached Brewer in travel soccer over the years.

Adams County Republican Party Chairman Rob Noetzel has announced that longtime party treasurer Larry Hill has resigned due to matters of health.
Hill, a Decatur resident, held the treasurer's post for more than 20 years, leading Noetzel to say in a news release, "The entire Adams County Republican Party would like to give its heartfelt thanks to Larry for his dedicated service as the treasurer of our party."
Noetzel also announced two changes in party leadership.
Esther Augsburger, 95, of Berne, died Monday in Swiss Village Retirement Community.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva.
Wanda P. Neadstine Fugate, 100, who lived in the Monroeville area for more than 60 years, died at 10:32 a.m. Sunday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community of Decatur.
She was born on September 28, 1910, in Dixon, Ohio.
She married Howard J. Fugate on July 10, 1937, in Monroeville; he passed away on March 16, 1994.
Wanda was a homemaker who also operated Fugate's IGA Store in Dixon from 1937-48.
Carl Smith, 81, formerly of Decatur, died Sunday in The Village of Heritage nursing home at Monroeville.
He was born to Charles and Elizabeth Zueber Smith.
There are no survivors.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Decatur Cemetery. Visitation is 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesday in Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.
Merlin W. Sprunger, 87, of Berne, died Monday in Swiss Village Retirement Community.
He was born in Adams County on February 11, 192 to Joel and Clara Ellenberger Sprunger.
Among survivors are a son, Ryan Sprunger of Berne, and three daughters: Mrs. Fred (Charlotte) Linn of Berne, Nancy Smith of Berne, and Mrs. Tom (Sharon) Ninde of Bluffton.
